Is this a bad beat?

Posted Sat Oct 21, 2006 5:00 am GMT by UtrechtSlim
Now I know the execution on this hand is not perfect. I probably should have raised big time on the Turn, but I couldn't resist smooth calling. When the board paired on the river I became a little more tentative, because his leads now indicated danger. His reraise on the river was tremendously civil.. So I called.

However, that's not the point. The point is, is this a bad beat? He was a 3 point dog on the Flop and a 23 point dog on the Turn..

No, its only a bad beat if all or most of the money goes in when the guy is far behind and catches up on a later street.

And with a big hand like that, you want to try and get as much money in the pot as possible, thats why you raise the turn... not to drive your opponenet out, but to bloat the pot as much as possible.

Sure, you'd prolly lose a lot more money on this particular hand, but in the long run you're more than making up for it.
