Where to Go?

Posted Mon Oct 23, 2006 3:03 pm GMT by lwestatbus
My site (PokerRoom) made the definitive announcement and set dates.

I'd sure appreciate recommendations for sites that (in order of priority)

* Have definititively announced that they are staying open to US players

* Accept Neteller

* Have lots of fixed limit ring games at the $1/$2 and above stakes

* Have a pretty good set of low cost tournaments (FL or NL)

* Have pretty good player points for free tournys

* Have decent customer support

* Have a pretty good interface

Thanks much.

I like absolute a whole lot, but they have more short handed tables than full ring. It's almost never an issue finding a game at 1/2 though.

From my understanding Neteller is no longer a viable option for US players to move money into and out of poker sites, or am I wrong?

Neteller says they are good until the feds come up with solid rules. So you only kind of wrong.

My biggest fear would be getting money in and not being able to get it out. I guess you could have the poker site send you a check, but what if your money is stuck in between at Neteller and perhpas your bank want accept a transaction? Don't know if the banks are still working with Neteller so not sure if this could happen or not. Thoughts?

you should be able to move money back and forth between neteller and your bank. the only change would be you could no longer move money between neteller and the gaming site. neteller can be used for LOTS of things other than gaming. i'd be quite shocked if they actually banned US customers from using their service alltogether.

as to the original question: Golden Palace Poker. meets all of your stated requirements. been playin there for a long time and like it a lot.

I checked out all of the sites mentioned here and sent off some questions to support at each site and went with PokerStars.

I picked them for five reasons:

1. They were up front and proud about their statement that they would continue to serve US players. I could envision a bunch of scrappy Costa Rican programmers, banging out code, with a big sign that says, "Yankee Come Home."

2. Support responded to my 4-question eMail immediately and actually answered my questions. Not some boiler-plate spam answer but a real human read my questions and gave me pertinent answers.

3. They allow multiple household members to have real money accounts (forgot to list this in my criteria). They don't allow you at the same table, of course, but no problem for my wife and I to both play the same site.

4. They have lots of micro limit tables for my wife.

5. Their policies, house rules, etc., were easy to find, up front, and reasonable. Whole operation gave a business-like impression. Also no annoying pop-ups from the site.

I'd cashed out another $300 from my original site Friday and the money appeared in NETeller by Saturday. I was able to fund my PokerStars account instantly. No kidding, within five seconds of clicking the button.

Only down side was that my nom de poker was already taken and I had to come up with another one.

I've been playing UltimateBet. Mostly because I don't play much, and when I do, it's at small limits. I like how their bonuses don't expire, I can churn them slowly at my low limits.

They said they got advice from both inside and outside the US and were advised they were o.k.

However, in the latest update there was a new acceptance policy which pretty much said that the player is responsible for knowing and abiding by the laws of their jurisdiction. So a bit of concern.

To UAU: I withdrew everything from all sites right before going out of town when the new law first came up. When I got back, I was able to reload with no problem.

Tuesday vote those f******s out!

Went onto PokerStars tonight to play my first game and, even though there were tons of tables up and running there was only one at 1/2 FL full table (my preferred game) and the average pot size was really small. This was 11:00 PM Saturday night. I'm going to have to see how this develops.

Received a qualified response from Golden Palace. Lists several states they won't service (not mine--but why take the chance).

Absolute also replied with an unqualified, "Hell, yes, we'll take US players."

Meanwhile I'm kicking butt on PokerRoom in the final two weeks. Damn. One day to go and then I'm out.

Embarassed Boy am I embarrassed and many apologies to PokerStars. It turns out that I had the "Hide Full Tables" box checked so I wasn't seeing all of the tables in play. There were lots and lots of tables once I figured this out. Also, the PokerStars support staff has been spectacularly responsive. They actually read your mail and answer your questions! Very impressive.
