I entered this ring 10 hands earlier. Alot of pre-flop action going on and rather large pots. I know the preflop call was kind thin, and i know im out of position. But these guys obviously didnt hit anything, so im putting them on high pairs and overcards.

If my math is correct there is approximately $50 in the pot. Getting just over 4:1 on your money. I would call this bet and see what happens on the turn.

This is what you were playing for.... you hit the card you wanted, now push it.

I concur with this statement. There is no reason for you to call the flop, hit your card on the turn and then fold. So I would recommend pushing the turn. Also, on the flop, you said you thought they had overpairs or overcards so why put them on T9 now? Don't get in the habit of just putting your opponent on the nuts just because its possible. Its possible one has a set and another has an over pair. You never know. In conclusion, you hit the card you wanted, now push. How did it turn out?

Gotta push. Even if he has 9T you still have a couple outs.

Now here's where i think i made a mistake. I dont mind the call, its just that afterwards i regret raising just 9, thinking that i could stilll get them on for something like 20 or 40...

Wow. To tell you the truth, I'm amazed your hand was good after a big raise and a flat call on the turn. Talk about two guys who can't take a hint from the board...

calling a raise w/ J9o vs 4 players (and potentially 5) in big blind...you seriously are begging for trouble.

Posted Thu Oct 26, 2006 11:05 am GMT by cayouche
NH, but for future reference, fold J9o preflop.

Personally I don't see a big problem calling with J9 here as long as you're a decent post-flop player--I'd guess I probably had a split or a loss on that turn though.

it'll usually be very hard to play it strong unless u flop a monster. (and u need a lot to flop a monster with that hand)

otherwise u're reduced to play it passively hoping u get pot odds for your straight draw (cant even hope for flush draw).

not very profitable in the long run imo

I agree Scan, but with 4 other people in my goal is to hit the flop that will break one of them and lay it down if I don't.

The question here is when do you lay it down (what street) and how much is it going to cost you?

If your getting drawings odds and someone is pricing you to take the draw then by all means I agree, take it. However, if your not getting a good price and only something like 2:1 or 3:1 then you might as well lay this down because it will cost you to chase and if you don't hit then your wasting alot of good chips.
