All-in and side bets

Posted Wed Jun 18, 2003 4:45 am GMT by Biscuit
Me and my mates were having a discussion about poker rules and found a situation that we couldn't agree on. If a player has gone all-in and there are still other players in the game, the excess goes into a side bet. This scenario is undecided, however:

Say there are three players: A, B and C. A goes all-in. B calls. Can C raise the bet with B? If so, would B have to see this raise in order to see A's hand at the end?

If A goes all-in and B calls, C can raise over the top of B to as much as C has left after calling A's bet. B would have to call that re-raise in order to remain in the hand so if u like, yes B does have to call in order to see A's hand.

If B folds, the re-raise of C is taken back and the showdown ensues for 3 times the all-in bet of A (cos A, B & C all called even though B is now out). If B calls C, the game progresses as usual with all additional bets over and above the value of A's all-in bet going into the side pot.

Hope that helps a bit.

wait... what happens to the sidebet??

Player B and Player C fight for the sidepot... Even if player A has the best hand, s/he can't play for the sidepot. Its possible for either play B or C to win both the sidepot as well as the main pot, but player A can only win the main pot (as they didn't put any money into the side pot)

In case it's still not clear... When he says B&C fight for the side pot, if they're both in at the showdown, even if player A wins the main pot, whoever has the highest hand out of players B&C takes the side pot.
