Didn't know which forum to post this in, but I was online so I put it here.
Playing a pretty loose $1/2 fixed limit ring game. I'm playing pretty tightly but have been getting clobbered by suck outs. I'm UTG with 9 T but can count on at least 5 players to flop and about a 40% chance of a raise so I limp in.
Flop is 6 7 J . I realize that I have an inside straight draw and then that 8 will give me the absolute stone cold nuts. It is checked to me, I check, meanwhile thinking, "Let's see 8". Somebody bets, everybody calls, and, validating all of those everywhere who think that poker is rigged (especially my idol Cheezewhiz), the dealer produces 8. SB bets, BB calls, I call, get two more calls (thought I would so I didn't raise here). River is an Ace (whoooppie), SB bets, BB calls, I raise, everyone else folds, SB reraises, BB folds, I cap, SB calls. Whoooeeee!!!
The reference is from the big game in the Maverick movie with Mel Gibson where he wills his ace to appear.
Unfortunately, I spent the rest of the session trying to will AA in my hole cards but the link seems to have been broken somewhere.

Um, all four 8's would have given you the stone nuts on the turn. None of them would have given you unbeatable nuts...

Yeah, but what he meant is the 8c would've made it impossible for flushes.

If I'm going to try to will my gutshot to hit the turn, I'm not going to get greedy with the poker gods by narrowing down the suit when, if my gutshot lands, any 6, 7, 8, 9, T, or J on the river kills my nuts. Just willing my gutshot to hit at all is Maverick enough for me. I'm just sayin'.

 Boy are you right. It wouldn't have been stone cold. Just pretty darn good.
