Great hand, if I do say so myself.....street by street

Right again, you ABSOLUTELY need to check raise here. If the TAG BB hasnt bet out or raised yet, he has nothing worth calling 2 bets cold with. If the button had an A or K, then he surely would have raised preflop. SO he is at best looking at a low PP or some icky draw/position play hoping to take the pot here w/ the larger turn bet.

So, I check raise and the BB chucks his cards in frustration (I dont get that), the button goes into the tank and finally makes a crying call after 45-60 seconds.

River 9, what to do here?

Moderately loose 8/16 game, very loose by online standards but just semi crazy from the typical game.

I have 23 off suite in the small blind. It is folded around and the button limps. What do you do here? Big blind is younger TAG player, button is looser Asian dude, but not crazy loose like some others. He just plays a lot of hands.

Um, fold. Not worried about TAG, but loose guy limps on button? I smell something stinky... Shocked

Personally, I would just complete the blind and hope the BB checks. I would take a flop and hope to see something like 2-2-5.

Disclaimer- I RARELY ever play limit. haha!

The answer is: smooth call. no need to show your strength at this point.

Flop rainbow AK7, checked to button who bets. Now what?

Fold?

Now where's the fun in that?

I prefer to float this flop, and wait for the turn to c/r. I only show strength now if the BB raises behind.

Exactly Sean, smooth call this flop. BB calls.

Turn 5, checked to button, he bets. Now what?

Call and spike the 4 for the fishy suckout as usual? Wink

Agreed. Plus, we need to protect our hand from the BB who is probably drawing with his 86.

Bet bet bet. Can't win without a bet.

Posted Fri Nov 03, 2006 3:53 pm GMT by Dave B
YES YES YES, you own this guy, you have him on the ropes, YOU BET!

And then, holding the nut low, staring straight at the pot like you have a monster played to perfection for max value with proper style and elegance and he.......??????????

Posted Fri Nov 03, 2006 4:45 pm GMT by Sean_in_NJ
This is where our experience probably varies. I always expect villian to fold. More often than not, villain calls or raises.

He called instantly w/ K2.

I played the hand perfectly, 10 for style points, -EV.

Crying

Now, what is the moral of the story?

Don't bluff a calling station.

There is no reason to get tricky or represent hands to a player who can't see anything beyond his own two cards would be my guess.

dont bluff a calling station since that was such a nasty hand to lose with Sad
but that is my experince also

Sometimes even the backdoor gutshot will lose.

No, the moral is that you need to make these plays showing ABSOLUTE strength looking for max payout to get paid off several more times.

This is pretty typical of how you would slow play a big hand (smooth call the flop, raise the turn, bet the river). Now, some people just muck their 23 when called, I proudly show it and laugh it off.

But when you generally play tight, I want them to really SEE that I do mix up my game.

In the next 12 hands I flopped 2 sets and an open end straight flush draw and was paid off handsomely by numerous players in each pot.

Throw away $64 and wait for hundreds to come back!

I "invested" about a hundred in my home game last night. I fully expect to make that back plus some down the road.

Thats the best piece of advice I've taken from Dave, he said it a different way a while ago. Play tight, but if you aren't getting hands, pick a hand, raise and re-raise till the river like its the nuts. Guaranteed you get paid off big time.
