Ok, just a friendly game of poker among some guys, but i am so frustrated by this hand that i would like someone to give me their thoughts on it.
The game, of course, is Texas Hold'em. We are not playing with blinds, because it is a kitchen-table kind of game. Instead, we all ante. Bets range from $1/no limit. Ante is $1
I know thats not casino poker, but bear with me.
The hand is dealt. I have two aces in the hole. Ace of spades and Ace of clubs. Player to my right - call him player 1 - bets a few bucks. I see him and raise him about the same amount. everyone folds except one player to my left - player 2 - who stays in. Then, player 1 raises me again. I see him, and Player 2 also stays in. Now, I know player 1 is agressive and probably doesn't have anything, so I am pretty sure that i am just taking his money at this point. Player 2, I'm not so sure about.
The flop:
4h Ah 3d
Player 1 passes. I go all in. Immediately. It is about 90 dollars. Player 1 folds immediately, but after some deliberation, player 2 stays in. We flip the cards, and he has 5, 6 offsuit!! he is on a low straight draw and he stayed in.
The turn:
Jd
All good for me, no more betting, obviously.
The river:
7c
I LOSE IT!
I couldn't believe it. I'm not an exceptional poker player, so I would really like some help on this one if anyone would like to offer it.
Your thoughts?
Thanks,
Isaiah

Well, that certainly is a bad beat, but there are a few things that I would have done differently.
First of all, with aces in the pocket, after player 1 reraised you, I would have raised hard. Very hard. If you're stack was $90 on the flop, I'd have come in for maybe $30 or $40 preflop.
Player 2 sounds like a very loose (and poor) poker player, but even still I doubt he'd have called you with a raise like that. Player 1, being more aggresive, may have called with his Ax or his baby pocket pair (did you ever find out what he had?), and thats just fine, especially if he has Ax (Ax meaning an Ace and any small card)
The last thing in the world you want with AA is for someone to draw out on you. You need to make them pay, and pay dearly preflop to even have a chance.
In this situation, the guy had 8 outs that could make his hand. On the turn, this comes out to 8/47 and on the river he had 8/46, or about a 34% chance of hitting his straight by the river. Not very good odds when you're taking an even money bet since you were the only one left in the pot(and although there was preflop raising, it doesn't sound like the pot was nearly big enough to justify this call..)
Long story short, he made a poor bet statistically, and got lucky. Especially considering there was flush potential on the flop (for all he knows, you could be muscling the pot with a flush draw, in which case you have 9 outs on the turn and the flop compared to his 8 outs on each)
Hang in there... poker may seem like a game of luck in the short run, but good players win out in the long run by playing good, solid poker.
