Their are a few charities around where I live who host holdem tournys along with food and drinks (beer included). Its a fun time and I love playing cards, but its so hard to play in a rebuy tourny when you dont have the money to buy in a few times.
So far I played in 3 tournys of which are about 100 players each time. I placed in 14th, 10th, and 8th. You only start out at 2,000 chips and the blinds start at 50/100 and double every 20 minutes. I just think its so stupid how some of these people organize these tournys. I know they want the money for charity, but it just seems like whoever is willing to buy in 5,6 times is going to win everytime.
Sorry, just had to vent
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

If you're playing a rebuy you're supposed to bring atleast 5 to 10 buyins. It's not "unfair". It's a DIFFERENT GAME and anyone is allowed to play within the rules to get the best advantage. Playing super loose in the rebuy period is a SMART strategy.
If you don't like it, play freezeouts. Simple.

Blimey is that right - 10 times. My thoughts on that would be that buying in that many times is not profitable overall based on the the chances of you winning a tournament.

10 times 50 would be 500 dollars.
1st- 2,000
2nd- 1,000
3rd- 500
I would have to come in 3rd place just to break even. Thats a little dumb.

You never mentioned payouts. In most tourneys extra buyins go straight into the payouts, so the prize money goes up up up - doesn't stay the same.
Do you notice that in most literature/forums, the people that have won or do well in these tournaments recommend buying in repeatadly, gambling and trying for first place, while the people that don't do well/make money but are convinced they play "smart poker" recommend playing tight?

Yea you are right. I was doing fairly well, but the blinds move way too quickly (as quick as I ever seen). If it wasn't for it being a charity the payouts would be a lot bigger.
The rules were that you can only rebuy if you are under 2,000 chips. I guess I should have explained everything
