Nice bankroll starter.

I haven't been around for a while and I really miss all of the regulars here but I just had to relate what happened to me on Sunday.

I had busted my bankroll for the upteenth time a couple of weeks ago and had been making the freeroll circuit trying to get a fresh start. I was starting to get frustrated from constantly getting a bit ahead and then losing it all back and had decided that this business of making minimum deposits over and over again was just a waste of time. Also, since money is tight for my family right now, I don't need to be wasting the money.

Anyway, I happened to stop by an old site I used to play on, a microgaming skin, and noticed they had a new feature. By using frequent player points, a player can join a freeroll and win real cash. Well cool! I have about 1000 points. Unfortunately it was an early Sunday morning and the only other player was sitting at a 500 point heads up table. Did I really want to use half my points in one shot? Oh well. I did.

The guy was the worst heads up player I have ever seen. After min-raising ten hands in a row and watching him fold I was up about 1300 to 1700 when I was dealt AA. Naturally, I simply min-raised and I was surprised to watch him push all-in. Of course I called and ended up winning $10. Sweet! A nice start to the Sunday morning. We didn't even make it to the second level of blinds! Very Happy

So I take my newfound wealth to a micro-limit table and am sweating the lose of nickles and dimes for the next hour. The boredom is killing me and I'm half watching the game and half watching the tv. I'm in the big blind and am dealt two meaningless cards and just checking it down, as is everyone else. The board is nothing but low cards and I am just looking towards the next hand when chips starting flowing everywhere! What the heck? Shocked Shocked Split pot? Software bug? I start to review the chat window when everyone starts cheering and yelling (a la the keyboard of course.) I finally notice the following message:

"This is a bonus hand. Soup_dog has been awarded $320.

Holy crap!!! Shocked Shocked Very Happy Shocked Smile

I can't believe it. This morning I was broke and now two hours later I have $300. Sweet! (The award was for being part of hand #1032000000)

Now, since my wife is going to take the kids clothes shopping and I'm staying home to clean, I decide to take a stab at a $10 mtt... unheard of territory for me. I'm feeling giddy so when the very first hand for me is JJ on the button I raise to 5xBB. The big blind pushes all-in and now I've got a choice. I know the correct play should be to fold but I am just feeling too dang good. I call. Naturally he has QQ but I end up spiking a Jack on the river and I am on my way! Very Happy Very Happy

4 hours later, many beers, washed dishes, folded laundry and cleaned bathrooms in the meantime I managed to make my best showing in a MTT ever with a second place $500 win. I was BOUNCING off of the walls. I immediately cashed out $600 and left myself with $200 to play with. I think I will take my wife out for a nice dinner.

Anyway, I know it's not much to some, but that second place was a huge boost to my ego. Hopefully I can keep it rolling.

Take care all, I still lurk from time to time. Heck, who knows? I may even make another post some day.

Really? Why am I always the last woman to know these things???? I knew I was doing something wrongly, now I know what it was. Now comes the tough decision... to tell the hubby or not to tell. Hmmmmm

Thanks!

I've been rolling along lately, cashed out a bit to buy my wife a present and winning and losing with the rest. Basically about even but seeing a dramatic improvement in my ring table play. Hope fully it will reflect in my bankroll soon.

Just an update.

Poker this Thanksgiving was insane! My wife wanted to buy a new light that was on sale so I gave her $200 of my poker money to buy it. That left me with about $100 on Sultans going into the Thanksgiving weekend. Since I couldn't win anything at the SNGs or MTTs I decided to start playing some cash tables. (And cash tables have been a notorious problem for me in the past.)

I started out on the 50NL tables because you only needed to buy-in for $10 and the blinds were .25/.50. I would just wait for a strong hand and try to double up quickly. My cards were off the hook! By Saturday morning I was up to $350 and cashed out $200.

So now I started trying the 100NL (.50/1.00) tables and buying in for $20. By Sunday morning I was back up to $250 before taking a break. Then Sunday night things got crazy. I could not win. Buy-in after buy-in got taken from me and I was soon down to $100 and not amused. Finally I got some luck and was able to parlay a $20 into $100 and was almost back to $200. Then the cards went bad again. One especially bad beat knocked me back to $110 and I was on serious monkey tilt.

I decided "screw it". I have $100 here and $400 in the bank, I'm going to try for a double up. I threw the whole $100 onto a table and started mixing it up. After about 10 hands I get J7 of diamonds under the gun. A power hand and I'm in good position!!!! Embarassed LOL. I raise it to $5 and get one caller who reraises me another $5 and I call. The flop is an even mix and contains two diamonds but I didn't pair anything. Naturally I bet out $10 and he reraises me and I reraise back. He called. The turn is another diamond. SWEET! We do the raise reraise dance again and the river is a meaningless card. Since the board didn't pair I know a flush is the best he could have but since he pushed hard preflop I figure he has a big pocket pair or a set. I push in my last $30 and he calls and my flush takes it down. Very Happy Very Happy (Surprisingly he didn't call me a lot of bad names. LOL) It was now 1:30 am and I'm back at $230 and call it a night. If I keep winning hands like that people are going to think I'm supa.

This morning I start to think about how nice it was to start with a big stack to make those big hands pay off, so I jumped into another ring table for $50 instead of $20. After about 20 minutes I was up to $120 and it was time to head to work. So now I am sitting at $300 on the site, $400 in the bank and my wife has a new chandelier a la poker money so that should keep her happy.

I got MAJOR lucky after going on tilt like that last night. I need to try and keep that under control. LOL Hopefully I can keep the cash table winning going.

Maybe I should start one of those "bloggy" things everyone talks about.

Nice wins Soup. I have been experiencing the same thing you do. The other night I bought in for $50, and in about 4 hours I ended up with $550 and cashed out $400.

Then I played the next night, bought in for $100 and got some terrible hands, and awful bad beats. Decided to quit for a few days, and i'll probably tomorrow night.

I have found that if I play one night after the other, I end up losing for some reason. It's when I have a great night, then take a day or two off before playing again that I find I do alot better. Pretty weird.

Anyways...grats on your winnings and keep it up.

Nice post, soup. It was also very nice of you to put some of your winnings toward something your wife wanted. If nothing else, it'll help her understand your "poker obsession" (this is what a friend of mine's wife calls his playing once a month Rolling Eyes ). Keep up the good work and try to curb the tilt thing. I know it's easier said than done. I've been playing mostly SNG's and MTT's lately which are not my strengths. I need to get back to my money-maker the cash game. I'm thinking of playing right now but I'm home sick from work. Is that wrong?

Just one bit of advice.

It's great everything is going well right now, but if you carry on what you are doing I will tell you what happens.

You get another little nice win, cash out $200 and left with $200.

You buy in for a full stack or $50.

Bang, set over set.

Bang, flush v flush

Bang, flush v full house

Tilt

Tilt

Busto.

That is not me having a dig at you, it's just what is most likely to happen if you keep playing underolled. Your bankroll can not sustain the natural variance and downswings poker offers if you stick to the limits you are playing.

Yeah there is a chance you can go on a massive run, it happens, but it's more likely you will be busto.

If you want to keep the money in tact, move down to a smaller level and build up.

Beerwench: Yes that is very wrong.
