limping with AK

iv seen this move few times over the last couple of days in the turbo sngs. example

blinds 100 200 im in the bb with around 2000 2 mid position limpers button limps sb completes i look down at AQ i push thinking ill take down a nice little pot with no competition or maybe get called by a pair and have a race.

now one of the limpers turns over AK and im dominated. what do you guys think of this move by the AK, i suppose there hoping one of the blinds will make a move like i did,

but in these turbos the blinds are going up quick and i just cant see the benefit of doing this, letting in multi limpers and then totally missing the flop and having to lay it down. i suppose they could be thinking stop and go but a bit risky against many limpers.

surely you better pushing or getting hh up against one opponent.
if the move works then great but im sure one of you guys could give me a clearer picture of the benefits or disadvantages of this.

I do this sometimes as a varying play (albeit I play mostly $400 and $1000 max cash games and not Sitngo's). It is a way to disguise your hand as well as a way to keep the pot small since AK is generally ot a big pot" hand in NL. Most often, I will do this in EP in a game where there are a lot of people willing to call decent size raises and I don't want to have to continue bet a significant amount if I miss. As I said, it is a varying play for me and not basic play.

Slick is a flexible hand and should be played that way.

i agree shorn in cash games its a good way to mix it up, but in turbos you rarely get chance to mix it up to much, with the average game time of less than an hour. maybe first couple of rounds but as them blinds start increasing and ms getting lower im not sure wether its a good idea.

It works great in the right situations. If you've got a super aggro pushbot to your left (read as: me), you can really pick a lot of people off with it. Setting up the play can be a problem though. If you limp two or three times and fold to a push, that can get costly. I don't do it much unless I'm very confident the players won't realize something is up when I limp in EP and will push a very wide range of hands.

Obviously, disadvantage is a bunch of other people limp, you whiff the flop and have to fold to resistance. That's the gamble you take.

Stack sizes definitely come into play here too. If you have AK and are pretty short, <10BB, it's much better to just throw it in there rather than getting cute. Bigger stack=more trickeration.
