Hi guys wondering if you could help me with chip distribution. I'm not too sure the percentages of each that should be given out in a normal tournament situation. i.e. when playing with 2 people, what denominations of chips should be used, i usually use 10, 20, 50, 100 but i'm not sure how much of each to give out so that the game flows well and the blinds aren't too much but are worth winning. Is there a rule of thumb that can be applied to a heads up situation and does it change as the players increase?
Ben
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

My advice is change the denominations to 25, 100, 500, and 1000 (if necessary).
For a short tourney, give everyone 2000 chips to start. For a medium length tourney, give everyone 5000, and for a longer tourney, 10000.
I like this blind structure (similar to the WSOP structure):
25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400
300/600
400/800
500/1000
600/1200
800/1600
1000/2000
1200/2400
1500/3000
2000/4000
2500/5000
3000/6000
4000/8000
etc.
Blind lengths can vary depending on how many players you have and how long you want to tourney to run.
