What does everyone believe the greatest skill is in texas hold em?
Is it the ability to read other players? Is it the ability to remain disciplined and not tilt? Is it the ability to correctly apply maths to the game?
What about the skill of getting the most out of your hand when you know you've won? Or the ability to cut your losses and run when you know your beat?
I know you really need all of these abilities and more to become a truley successful player, but I was thinking of compiling a list of the most important skills of the game and am not sure what the order of importance should be.
Its a pretty wide ranging and difficult question. Any thoughts anyone?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

I say adaptability to different games and playing styles. You must be able to recognize situationsand then maximize your expectation by playing them appropriately.

Patience is #1, but experience comes a close 2nd. The more you play, the more intuitive the game becomes.
I personally think the ability to read other players is way over rated. Yes, you will occasionally get a "read" on players, but I don't believe that in the long run your correct reads will earn you enough to make up for all your incorrect reads.

While i agree with your general idea that reads are overrated, the odds of your belief being true are about slim to none.
