100$ Bankroll - Which Limits?

Posted Sun Dec 17, 2006 9:22 am GMT by Improvement
I've had some experience with online poker. The problem I have is choosing the correct limits for my bankroll. I think I'm gonna play ring games. My bankroll is pretty small. If I deposit 100$ to PS, what cash game limits do you figure I should start with to build a bankroll? I would like an answer for both NL and L, Ty.

For a bankroll you need roughly 20 times the max buy in for NL and 300 big bets for FL. In your case that's NL5 and 15c-30c, FL.

Two more things though.

1. These are rough estimates, things like how big your edge is, if you ever play short handed, how aggressive your style of play is, etc. also need to be considered.

2. Is $100 your entire bankroll? Even if you only have $100 deposited on a site you might consider reloading if you lose it all(?). Your bankroll is how much money you have set aside for poker (mentally, in a box, on a site, whatever).

100$ is the amount I wanna start out with. I wanna become a better player before I set aside more. That's why I need to choose the limits I'm able to establish a bankroll in.

I'm able to set away more for poker, but I don't want to set in more money before i have the skills to protect them.

if that's the case then I'd defenately stick with the 5$NL or up to 15/35 FL. I did the exact same thing when I first started playing and 100$ was a very comfortable bankroll to learn with at those stakes.

If you're only planning on spending $100 for poker, then I suggest you try to tabulate your wins/losses, how many hands you play per session, etc to try to get a "long-term" results for your play.

If you feel like spending more, and plan on playing online poker seriously for a long time then download PokerTracker, the standard tool to help improve your game by tracking your results.

Pokertracker or Poker Office are great tools to improve your game. Also I found just keeping a log/journal will really help you. Every session I play I write down, how much I won/lost, maybe a little text on how it went, tells I've noticed or even situations I notice I keep getting into.

I started with more or less the same attitude.
I can afford a much higher BR, but really don't want this to become an expensive hobby.

My first deposit was a meager $50 (the min) into FT. With the lowest levels being $10NL, and my playing skill still left a lot to be desired - this was soon gone. I've since deposited a total of $300 (few more min and one $100) and only now I'm starting to barely break even (meaning not lose all my BR)

My point, chances are you will lose your BR a couple of times before deciding if you are good enough to beat this game. Good luck and play within your limit.
