Hey guys, cool site. I have been a lurker for awhile, but first time poster. Here is my question. Have any of you guys ever thought about opening up a dedicated poker room in your city. Kind of like how the bar league poker does it, but just have a poker room. In order to get money you would rent the dealer and use of the chair. Any input on this would be appreciated.
Plus I have looked around, but cannot find anybody doing something like this. Maybe some of you know of this concept being implimented already.
Simon
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

The problem (?) with your idea is there are already casinos offering poker in many parts of the country.
For the places that don't, that's why there's home games and the local elks lodge Vegas nights. Not sure if the private social club games are legal or not, it's likely they aren't.
To open up a legal room, you have to be regulated by your local casino commission (Gaming Control Board, etc.). And if you're located somewhere that gaming is outlawed, then no gaming commission will exist. You have to be licensed to run any sort of legal "game of chance", they make sure the games you run are legit, and you're subject to random inspections as well.
It's not just as simple as renting a dealer and getting a poker table to run a "legal" game.

That isn't legal in the least.

Here is what I am saying. Poker is simply the name of a card game. Just like solatire or Gin Rummy. What is illegal is gambling. Take the gambling part out of the equation and you will have a legal game. You can gamble on anything....golf, pool, or even flipping a coin. Simply doing those things are not illegal activities but when you gamble on it...That is what makes it illegal.

More importantly, who would want to PAY to go to a poker club and not play for money.
Ideas like this should never get past the Ican'tbelieveIwasconsideringthatBesurenevertotellanyoneIwasthinkingit stage.

I went to the npcpoker site and saw Moneymaker playing there. Did he play at that tournament?
I have played at some of the bar poker leagues and there are prizes we can play for. Also, in Eugene, Oregon you are able to play because of the social gambling laws. Do these guys in Memphis have the same thing?
