97 is well within his range of hands, as are other hands that beat you at the moment. But, you likely have a lot of outs to win, so raising is not out of the question (and you might have the best hand). Still, I frequently prefer a call here, because let's look at the scenarios.

Case 1: His bet is a block bet with a worse hand. A raise here will probably either win the pot or make it big enough that you will frequently have to call on the river even without a straight or flush.

Case 2: His bet is a pure blocking bluff (unlikely). A raise will win the pot. Calling, however, may make him fire again on the river, in which case you will win more money.

Case 3: He has a better hand than you and will just smooth call a raise. Now, if you don't make your draw, you've invested more than you should have and will have a tough river decision.

Case 4: He has a better hand and will reraise you. A bad outcome, although we still have a lot of outs to win (we still have over a 20% chance vs. 97, and perhaps even over 33% against some hands). Still, our equity is not high enough against certain categories of hands to make this profitable.

Looking at these cases, I prefer a call here. I'm glad he gave us a cheap chance to see the river. Especially considering we have position, the river should really clarify where we stand when the money goes in. No need to play a big pot on the turn with so many variables. Call.

Great flop raise I gotta say

I agree with diamond here, calling is great here, I dunno what exactly hes trying to block-bet here, maybe hes got a spade draw.

You built the pot up on the flop and he's giving you great odds to call here, you may even be able to check behind the river UI if you feel like hes slowplaying a bit.

I had him on AT, JT, or a mid PP. A small raise was out of the question because I would have a tough decision if I missed the flop. I decided to push and hopefully take it down right there, and have many outs to improve if called. At the very least I could lose but create an aggressive image.

I realize the push was more risky against a preflop limper, but after witnessing a couple players at the table slow play and smooth call premium hands I was kind of looking to make a statement.

If you're going to push with drawy hands like this, you really want to do this on the flop for a few reasons:

1. You have the most pot equity with 12 - 15 outs and two cards to come
2. You have the most fold equity here, a villain who calls/bets the turn isn't likely to be folding to the river. We sometimes want villains to fold hands like A10 on the flop here, but we're happy if we get it in.

BTW: When you have a draw like this, you'd rather have 2nd pair rather than top pair, that way you're trip outs are more likely to be live (i.e. a ten wouldn't have helped you against AT here)
