I mean, I virtually HAVE to let him have a card, right?

My only thought was the turn raise will be too obvious, and I want to be able to get my whole stack in, which requires him to have a hand anyway, so why not just start building it now?

tooo obvious too call, you miss a chance to win more even if u get action on turn or river. I like the size of the re riase and I think your reasoning was justified. Well played....now tell me he folded hoohaa.

To be honest, I really don't mind the raise. Might as well start to build a big pot now so it is easier to get your money in on later streets. After him calling the re-raise PF and then betting into you on the flop makes me think he has something. I think you are right in the fact that in order to get his stack, he has to have something anyway.

A cold call might have lost him anyways, I like the raise. Find out if he's got a hand, he might even reraise you and you have more options then.

Ok, yeah thanks guys... had just lost 3 big pots and then all of a sudden I flop the nuts, he bets, I raise, and he folds. I felt so sick because I thought for sure I was going to get a lot of the money back on this hand, especially if he has AK or something similar.

If he doesn't have a hand you're not going to get much more out of him anyways, and he he does have a hand he probably wouldn't believe that the nuts would put in such a raise so early, and you might get a re-raise, and start getting your whole stack in there.

There was no reraise PF.

Unless he made 2 pairs or drawing you're getting nothing either way.
He is trying to represent AK, though probably holding mid pocket at best.
Cold calling might have him think his pair is bigger then yours, but I doubt he'll fire again..

Also, the last thing you want to do is to let a T or Q fall off on the turn and potentially lose your market altogether. If he has to pair or two pair, he easily could view your raise as one with a draw, so I think it is fine.

My bad. I misread the hand history.

Anything that helps him on the turn sucks for you. If he gets trips, he's got a bunch of river outs for a boat, if he's betting something like JQ or J10 clubs he can get a flush, etc.

I'd say you made a great raise here, pretty small and tempting so he'll want to keep drawing, but you can put in a 3/4 - PSB on the turn to cut down his odds a lot and win a medium sized pot.

I had a similar hand in the low levels yesterday.

flop the nut str8 with KT on a QJ9 (2 suited) flop.
BB lead - I over bet and villain behind me push.
Every body fold to me and I quickly call.

Girl slow played A's.

Turn was a scary K. giving her the nut flush draw and a higher str8 draw.
River was a blank though.

Low level players love to slow play their big pair and then over bet when they are beat. I love them.
