Online SNG vs. cash games

Posted Wed Dec 27, 2006 6:07 pm GMT by hoiboi
I've been playing online for quite some time, mostly cash games and once in a while multi-table tourneys. however, just recently i've started to play in a lot of SNGs. i don't know if i'm struggling to adapt to a different style of play (i don't think so but who knows... i'm pretty new to SNG). i'll cash in maybe only 10-20% of the games and i'm definitely in the red so far.

has anyone had a lot of experience in both online cash games and SNGs? I would like to know what comparisons/analysis can be made between the two.

does anyone have an opinion on which is generally more profitable? thanks for any input.

while it is easier to make a lot of money in cash games, unless you want to play upwards of 50-100$ sngs. I believe that played right, SNGs are going to be a more steady source of income than cash games. But to each its own, there are some people who are very good at cash games, and some that are very good at sngs/mtts. Im better at SNGS and MTTS, IMO if you play tight and avoid iffy situations you will have a more steady profit in SNGS than in cash games. but that is just my mentality as a player

look for the slache entry on low level S&G strategy - one of the best posts ever made.

Hi mods, maybe we should make it a sticky

cash games are a much better source of cash and it's not even close.

sngs are completely different though, and definitely beatable, like any game. whatever guide you read, my only recommend is play tighter than it demands. in the early rounds, you should be folding pretty much every hand, and then push-city comes into play. sngs are about monkey work - not thinking.

supa's hit it ... and since the US ban, partypoker SnGs clearly have dropped off ... the days of 20% ROI are gone and therefore a good source of profits

cash games have always been better, but these days they are way better

TheSalch, GREAT writeup on SNGs. Can this strategy be applied to MTTs as well with minor modification or is it a different thing altogether?

"xDiamond_CutteRx" has a pretty good post on MTT's.Try searching his post,or maybe he'll chime in and link it for us.

edit:I searched for the post for awhile, couldn't find it,so gave up.I'm pretty sure it was his post. Then again I could be wrong.
