Help this is frustrating me - split hands or not

Posted Wed Dec 27, 2006 9:00 pm GMT by saucedonkey
HI I am sorry if this topic has been covered but I need a final answer once and for all
Last night we we playing a game of hold em.
3 players in
10, 9, 8, 7 and a 3 on the table
3 players in

player 1:9,6
Player 2: k,6
player 3: Q,6

Is this a split pot?
Or and this where I need clarity
Does player 1 win because he has the 9&6 in his hand? or is it just a split pot across the board.

I just need to know how you decide a split pot? If a player can use both his hole cards and only 3 of the community cards to make the best poker hand while the other 2 players can only use 1 card from their hole cards and then 4 community cards to make the best poker hand does that player not win?

Please help.

Split pot. Best 5 cards, regardless of in the hole or on the board.

Thanks but can you explain? I get the point of the split pot but to me it seems rather odd if a player can make the straight with his other hole card while the other 2 were chasing the straight should the win not go to him casue he used less community cards?

Sorry but it is frustrating me

"It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile."

Although in this case it was a draw Smile but the point remains that sometimes you just have to draw a line and say all the extra stuff doesn’t matter.

simply... you can ONLY use 5 cards.... that's is.... so if buddy wants to use his 9 then all he has is a pair of 9s 10 high...

Sorry, no. He'd still have a straight, plus that's not how it works. "Cards speak", so even if 96 guy turns over his hand and mistakenly says, "I have a pair of nines", he still has a straight. It's the dealer's responsibility to read hands and make sure there's no error, though anyone can point out an error.

Dont think of it in terms of hole and community, just think of it as each player having seven cards of which the best five make his/her hand.
