I’m surprised you kept trying to push him off the pot. All those cold calls would have slowed me down I think.
He could have indeed been a bad player or perhaps a very good one. We'll never know

Because a lot of players will decide what you have early and not change their mind. He put you on overs and was not going to fold unless an A, K or Q fell. Oh, and he is a mega-donkey too....

Your story has to make sense for the bluff to be a good one, yes? What hand are you trying to represent with your bluff? JJ/33/66? You did raise preflop and are now trying to sell a 3 or 6? Even if you are trying to sell a single Jack, why would you bet the river and for that much after the board got nasty?
IMO your bluff wasn't going to work against many hands that called the flop and turn.
I've made the same call to suprised looks on occasion, but I don't think it's as hard as you are trying to make it.
