Finished playing for the night and decided to watch a little $25/$50NL on FT cos John Juanda and Mike Matusow were playing on a 6 handed table.
I got a bit engrossed and it turned into about an hour of watching. JJ was sitting constant at about $10K and Mikey had gone from $5K to $2k and had clawed his way up to about $7.5k (a couple times taking the pot down with just naked aggression) when Juanda reraises Mike in a hand and takes the pot away, a few hands later he does it again and this time shows 9 hi for the total bluff.
JJ then starts talking...
John Juanda: Mike is easy to rob when he's winning bcos he
just play tight and wait for nuts
Mike Matusow: lol
John Juanda: but when he's losing he'll call with A high
John Juanda: or move all in with K high or J high then whines
about how 'Unlucky' he is
John Juanda: but i wont do that when he's stuck n steaming
though
So he's set him up pretty well, telling him how easy it is to rob him cos he's ahead, when exactly one hand later Mikey bites.
Mike's on the button and raises preflop
JJ calls
Flop 2 4 6
JJ bets out like 700 and Mike flat calls
Turn 9
JJ checks
Mike bets out like $2250
JJ reraises him all in
Mike thinks for a minute
John Juanda: MIKEYYYY
John Juanda: lololol
Mikey calls and flips over A Q
JJ shows 6 7
River a harmless J
and Mikey gets stacked.
Everyone knows how emotionally attached Matusow gets and how much his mood affects his play, I just think this was a beautiful set up and execution by Juanda, knowing exactly how this hand would play out.

Excellent.
I never suspected JJ to be the talkative guy.

Mike should probably remind JJ that he has perhaps the worst record of any big name pro when it comes to closing out a tourney. I don't think he's won one since about 1999.
Then again, when you are regularly stacking a guy like Mike at $25/$50, it probably doesn't matter..........

That's true, Mikey should have thrown something back at him, anything, but instead he got quiet and introverted and started to think about what JJ said.
Classic case of knowing your man, knowing that if you say this then he will do that.
Pretty funny.
I know $5K NL is just passing the time for these guys and Matusow bought right back in and within half an hour had most of it back. The execution was perfect tho.
btw... Geno, Juanda isn't a great closer, but i'd def. take the $750K he's cashed for in the last year! He does have one of the best ITM records.

That's hilarious. Watching Matasow lose online is awesome.
JJ won the first PPT tournament, I'm not sure how recently that was filmed, but it just aired for the first time this year. PPT doesn't pay much though, only a coupe hundread K, but still, saying he can't close isn't a fact. JJ is a machine.

Didn't JJ win a PPT event this year?
