no reads on players, been at the table for like 2 rotations. so this huge overbet. could it be a boat? is it the panicky bet of an 8 scared of a straight.... or is it a straight? or perhaps a boat overbetting hoping i have a straight. or a straight hoping i have the 8.
normally i would never consider raising here on the paired board if it wasnt for the overbet

I think one of the main things you have to think about is what is going to call your raise that you beat? If he has a lone 8 he will probably fold and you win the same amount of money. If he has a boat, he will re-raise you and you will have to fold with losing more money than you had to. If he has a lone T he MIGHT call the raise and you have gained some money. I think it is the safe play to just call here and hope you are best. I don't think there is much value in raising here. He could have a slowplayed hand like 98 or something like that. So just call and hope your hand is good.

I think I just call, mainly because he bet so much on the river and we have no reads on him. Had he lead out with a normal size bet I would have strongly considered reraising and getting away if he raised again. If you raise and he makes another raise it's going to be very hard to want to call it.
Of course if he ends up showing you something silly then you know for next time.

So we all call here?
I had a couple of similar hands yesterday.
In one, EP with KQs flop was 88T with two of my suites.
I lead, BB calls.
Turn a blank. I bet again, BB calls.
River his a 3 of my suit.
She over bet. I call and of course, a 83 slow played trips catching a boat.
In the other hand I made the mistake to raise, and the even bigger mistake of calling his hugh reraise.
