I led the flop for about 3/4 hoping for a call and ready to fold to any real attack (someone could easily have a better 2 pair or a hugh draw)

Slightly overbet the turn. Dude took a long time then called.
Either strength or drawing - my gut said a draw.

River is pretty ugly. Any 9 got me beat. So I checked. Hoping that if he hit his card or has me beat he wont push but value bet, allowing a cheap SD (I want SD with 2 pairs)
What are your thoughts about my check?

Now, he did push - which is a big over bet.

So, do I call?
Smells like a busted draw to me, but I lost a lot of my BRcalling hugh over bets...

Against an unkown player I think I call here more often than not. His river bet is a little bigger than the pot but I think our hand has enough value to allow us to call here considering how hard he pushed. Your check IMO complicated the hell out of this.

Flop- I like the bet and you leading out, not a hand to slow play here in a multi limped pot, charge them something to draw, thin the field and consider the hands that would call or raise you.

River- I do not like the check unless we are trapping. I think I lead out for around $2 again, and consider folding if villian pushes on me. It's a defensive value bet, if he still moves in on me I'm much more comfortable with folding now.

Interested in hearing others thoughts on the river check.

I would think I am beat here. Probably was playing some sort of rag and got lucky.

The reasoning behind my check is so :
The pot was at that time around $5.30
If dude hit his miracle card and I bet into him I would probably have to call, since if I bet too small he could sense weakness and push. and if I bet big I'd be pot committed and getting the right odds to call.

If I check and dude hits, he will opt for a value bet. Which I can then decide wether to call or not.

I find it hard to believe someone hitting their card and then over betting at the first sign of weakness - especially on low levels

Make a blocking bet on the river so that you set the price. If he calls, there's your cheap showdown. If he raises, you can fold.

If this were limit, check/call is fine.

Which shows more weakness a value bet on the end or a check? This isn't the type of board many hands reraise the river to any reasonable bet from you as a bluff most of the time IMO.
