Anybody else feel like Stars kinda stuck a dick up non-Supernova players? Basically Silver, Gold and Platinum stars now only have one freeroll per month, the others they have to pay FPPs to enter. This group of players probably represents 60 - 80% of their "profits" at the tables, low and mid stakes players grinding it out, etc.
And then they add a Supernova elite class requiring 1 million FPPs a year? Tons of bonus milestones for Supernovas with some pretty sick bonuses, even though they have to "clear" them (which really means just regularly playing).
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

I've not really looked into the new setup in detail, I didn't know it was down to one freeroll a month, it was 1 a week wasn't it?
I did see somewhere, someone worked out that getting supernova elite would generate something like $200,000 in rake for the site. So it's no surprise Stars want to encourage ppl to hell for leather to reach this level.

Once you get to a million a year, you can use them in the store to buy a life.

FPPs are a form of rakeback and need to be looked at as such. Higher MGR players deserve more favourable treatment and are actually bringing in alot more of the business than the numbers you've provided. A 1/2nl grinder can easily achieve plat status with any moderate amount of play, and subsequently supernova isn't that ridiculous. If you don't like the system, leave. Simple.
Stars is a business - the vast majority of <.5/1 players will be playing on Stars for entirely stupid reasons ("I saw it on T.V. woo!") and no amount of FPPs will change where they play. The real bread and butter is in converting high MGR players from other sites, and as such this new Elite tier will be making some strong business gains for the site. I'm probably going to be trying to get supernova this year, to be honest, and stars rewards those players nicely for their efforts. (>30% RB plus preferential support, entries in WSOP, etc).

I see the reason for encouraging supernova status, and I think their milestone bonuses is a really nice incentive, and supernova elites get closer to 40 - 50% RB after you factor in their two free $13K (ish) packages.
I'm just saying theres no reason for them to slightly downgrade silver and gold stars.
I think theres a pretty large amount of lower limit players that are grinding it out and making small profit/breaking even and it is still in Stars' best interests to keep those players there. When you get to their highest levels of play, the rake becomes pretty inconsequential ($3 for 500 - 1000 dollar pots). But low limit players end up paying rake up the ass.

A lot of what Supa says here is correct.
Stars has and has always had a huge base of lower limit cash game players, especially now with the demise on Party.
The one area where stars has always been lacking is in the upper limits. As these players generate a massive amount of rake for the site this is the "demographic" they are trying to attract.
I think their removal of lower VIP freerolls may be because they are going to be having 3 FPP cash prize freerolls each day now.
Stars new Freeroll Schedule
EDIT: Seems to me that Silverstar + have a $20K weekly freeroll
As a sidenote, I've always hated the "if you don't like it leave" argument. Stars are in fact one of the best places around at listening to their customers. If you don't like it, tell them.
