Vegas, Bellagio, Ceasers

Greetings,

First post here. I was wondering about etiquette at casinos. I will be playing in at Vegas in early February and I don’t want to make a fool of myself. I have a habit of saying raise, then saying raise $$$ more. So I covered the bet and then raised that much more. Most of the other players I am around raise TO $$$. So they are including the original bet and their raise in the number they spit out. If this is the common procedure in Vegas I want to clean up my game a little before I go.

Thanks for the help gang.

Assuming we are talking about NL, then as long as you say "raise" when it is your turn to act, you can take your sweet time getting the money in. What you cannot do is go to your stack over and over again.

I would suggest that if it is $20 to you and you want to raise, say "raise", then toss in the $20. And then go to your stack and count out the amount of your raise and put all of it in the pot at once saying something like "$80 more" or "$100 total". Tht way, no one can call you for a string raise.

Good luck and enjoy Vegas. Bellagio is my favorite place on earth to play.

And welcome too.

Shorn

That is exactly what I do. I just wanted to make sure that was common in Vegas.

I've got me a roll of around 5k to take, but since I don't have a feel for the casinos yet I am just going to play 1/2 nl.

I would advise against the $1-$2 at Bellagio and play the $2/$5. Better action and more table selection. $300 min./$500 max. at Bellagio.

Good luck.

I was playing limit at the Venetian with a TI dealer in August. He said the 1/3 at TI was one of the best games in town.

Had anyone played there? The room looked nice, but smallish w/ only about 10 tables when I walked by.

Im sure I will do just that on the 2nd day. Like I said earlier I haven't played at a casino before. I'm sure I will be a little nervous. I would rather get my gitters out as low as I can.

Once thats over Im planning on jumping into thier tourny and play the 2/5 nl

Thanks for the reply!

Generally, if you just say 'raise', then a dollar amount ("one fifty"), the dealer will usually ask you one fifty more?, or "a total of one fifty" Dealers arent mind readers and so many people say different things that it's usually difficult to enforce one way or another.

My favorites are "raise"- "one fifty to go", or "make it one fifty"; or as stated earlier, put in the call bet first ($20), and before it actually touches the felt, declare "raise", and now just say the amount more you want to put in. So now, if you said "one fifty", the total bet would be $170 (the 20 + 150), and no one will really chastise you if you do it that way.

Just dont say "raise", not say an amount, and make fifty motions back and forth to your stack.

Don't take this literally--can some NL players advise...

Isn't it true that the position of your chips relative to your cards (or the line on some tables) determines when you've "made an action toward the pot".

For example, you could say, "raise", put out the call, then screw around with your chips deciding how much to raise as long as you don't make a motion to the pot?

Apparantly at foxwoods it's considered a call if you put your chips in front of your cards. A dealer informed me of this after a guy was moving his chips around (in front of his cards) thinking about whether or not to call my all-in. He folded and I did want the call. Sad

The rules there change on an hourly basis, so who knows.
