ROI on your bankroll question |

Hi everyone, I guess this question is more for serious players/players who use poker as a source of income, etc.
Looking at the size of your bankroll as the amount of equity in your investment portfolio, what is the % return that you expect or strive for on let's say.. an annual basis?
I know that answers could vary but I wanted to get a sense of what poker players expect compared to someone in the stocks, real estate biz, whatever.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

About 200-400%, hopefully.

Well, this seems quite high to assume repeatable IMO. You might have individual years where it is 200%, but even the best pros will have bad years with marginal returns.
For me, I actually had a 1000% year last year ($6k to $72k), but going forward I would look for somewhere around 40-70% per annum and consider that good (I also don't play for a living, just after work and weekends).

Really depends on how much you start with an what stakes you're playing. Most of the time, a reasonable figure for an advantage in a game is 2% to 5%. If you're playing limit Poker, this means that you're doing well if you can make about 1 big bet per hour with a standard deviation around 10. In No Limit, this is harder to calculate.
The higher your roll, probably the lower your ROI will be, but your total profit will be greater if you're a winning player.

Interesting question hoiboi.
I made about 400% the year before last playing low limits and thanks to a couple of nice tourney finishes.
Last year I made about 75% but part of that was just not having anytime to play.
It looks nice when you see those ROI percentages but this isn’t bank account, winning that money took hours.

You are my new hero. Sorry Supa.
But seriously, I learn a lot from your post, why don't you post more?

(Blush). Thanks, but I certainly don't deserve hero status.
Unfortunately my job gets in the way of my passion, but I try to at least scan a few times a day. To be honest, I really only reply to specific posts that I think I have a good opinion on, so a lot of the LHE stuff I don't since I don't play that game that much.
If you had a specific question that you wanted me to think on and I didn't reply to it oin the general forum, I am happy to do so. Just send me a private message and I will definitely get to it.
