How to play against these types?

Posted Tue Jan 16, 2007 1:33 pm GMT by nailedanother1
Well i was playing at a table the other night and i noticed something about one of the players. He seemed to call or raise just about anything. This changed the table and the players around it. At first i did not mind because this allowed for a lot of money in each pot and therefore more to win. This one player though just seemed to play everything off suited cards and just everything. So i waited until i had good down cards and then i would try and catch him. The problem was i never caught anything and the way he was betting made it impossible to call. Wondering how to play against a very loose player?

Also, does anyone know of any sites that are sponsoring players?

Just as you already stated, set tight and wait for premium hands and then bust his arse...stack him hard. You failed to mention what kind of raises he was putting in and what levels you were playing. Either of these factors can tell you alot about the villian.

LOL... you guys are so quick to judge. I like it!

Hey, were all these questions based on "play money tables."?

No they were real money at a .50 1 no limit table. He was raising anywhere just from limping in a $1 to $8.

I see wackos like this about once or twice a month at the FL tables where I play. UrAteUp's advice is on target but there are a couple of other issues that can crop up.

First, since the pot sizes tend to be large you will have a waiting list of aggressive players trying to get onto your table (this is online, of course). You can sometimes run into what I call a hypertable--multiple raisers/reraisers hyper aggressive AND hyperloose.

Second, you usually need a set or better to win. In tight tables with the wacko anyone staying in has a pretty good hand. In the hypertables with many callers (and often pot odds to stay in with marginal drawing hands--remember this is fixed limit) you have many more players to the river and many more candidates for the suck out.

If you play the marginal drawing hands such as unsuited middle connectors, suited gapped connectors, KT offsuit, etc., you can run through quite a bit of cash if you don't hit. Or you can throw in a lot of money on chases and the wacko leaves before you hit. On the other hand two hits can make your week.

One observation I've made is that sometimes these wackos are lucky beyond belief. Sort of like Jamie Golds online. I watched one guy up a $60 gain in an hour at 0.50/1.00 FL with completely irresponsible play and unbelievable luck.
