Analysing hand histories

Posted Tue Jan 16, 2007 5:53 pm GMT by misterjokerboy
Hey guys,

I've decided to request the hand history from a 180 SnG that I won a few days ago, to go through it and see spots where I could have lost less/won more.

I've never done this before, so I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips for what type of things I should be looking at.

Cheers.

-Look at every hand you VP$IP

If you won, realistically see if you could have played it differently that would have netted you more money/let your opponent see less cards/charged him more for a draw, ect

If you payed off an opponent's value bet, figure out exactly why you didn't know what he held, see if there is somewhere you could have raised to see exactly where you stood in the hand.

In every hand you analyse, pretend you don't know your own hole cards and play the hand from your opponent's perspective. Do you give away too much information? Did your opponent save himself any money in any hands by playing it a certain way? Figure out exactly how your opponent could have played the hand better or see how your opponent played it as well as he did.

Tally all those preflop coinflips you had and see how good your record was and apply it to future potential coin-flip situations - ie. are you sure you want to call an all-in with AQs if you think your opponent has 88 or something.

Take all these specific hands and view them as a whole and see patterns that could negatively or positively influence your game in the future. Do you check-raise too much? Or do you never slowplay anything? Figure out a balanced strategy that you can continue applying to continue winning tournaments.

Goodluck, you can always post interesting hands in these forums too.

Thanks for the long reply Exit Music, this is something I really want to do more of. I'll try looking through my HH later and see what I find.

I will definitely post any hands I feel may be worthy of posting.
