recently i've been playing online heads up cash games (usually .50/1, 80 dollar buy-in), which i really really like. made the mistake of winning alot (for me) early on, and have since began to slide.
i like it because it is much more of a character study, and if you can successfully categorize a player, then you're well on your way to winning.
I have found that I have the most difficulty with loose/aggressive players. i like to play rather aggressive as well, but i often let a tough beat put me on the run.
i can handle myself well in SnG heads up, but i'd like to get better at heads up cash games. any comments, suggestions or strategies?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

When you said that taking a tough beat can put you on the run, that is a seperate problem from any tactical advice you may be looking for...it sounds like its just a matter of not tilting...have patience and know that the math is gonna screw you over sometimes...you cant let that stuff throw you off your game
Sng vs cash games heads up are two quite different animals, as often times in an sng the blinds are going to be exceedingly vicious...so in a cash game, you are going to have a lot more time to actually make plays and figure out your opponent...i dont have any specific advice other than to keep a close eye on your opponent's behaviors, and to tighten up more as opposed to a sng...one little thing i suppose is to watch for hands (post-flop), where you arent getting good pot-odds to play, but if you do hit your hand you can really cut into your opponent's abnormally deep stack (good implied odds seem to be a little more heavily weighted)....for example if the villain raises preflop, and you decide for wutever reason to call w/ a small connector, and the flop looks like A56 no flush potential and giving you an open-ender and he bets enough to push you off pot-odds-wise...you may want to be more inclined to play along since you can be pretty sure he has an ace and if you hit, you could really take him to the cleaners...
