Playing AK FL when you miss the flop

How do you play AK (suited or not) in fixed limit when the flop completely misses you? There are clearly many combinations of circumstances that may apply so feel free to qualify your answers with situational constraints (position, number of players in the pot, betting history, backdoor flush or straight to you, 2 suited cards (not your suit) on the flop, paired flop, or whatever).

It might be simpler to answer the question, "When do you fold these cards?"

Usually bet the flop about 75% of the time when I miss, unless against 4 players or more, then I check. Turn is kinda read and image dependent, throw another bet in there if the opponent is one to peel flops real light or you have only been showing down top pair and overpairs. Otherwise, I like the check the turn for a free card (all of this is in position). OOP, I tend to take a more passive check/fold line way more often.
