17 outs on the turn.. do I have to call?

Posted Thu Jan 18, 2007 9:47 pm GMT by Ensano
from my last recent trip to the casino and Interesting hand came up..

playing 1/2 NL the table was really passive so feeling ready to change it up...

UTG I raise to 6 with AJo get 1 caller in LP and the flop comes...

pot 14$ flop K J 3 all spades...

Having the A of spades I bet out 8$ and LP raises to 38$ total...

now heres what totally throws me off... he looks straight at me and says, " I have the flush... call if you want but I have the flush just so you know. I'll even show you if you want"... I asked him if he's willing to show me could he show me now, but the idea didn't fly..

not knowing why he'd be honest with me about a hand like that (wouldn't he want me to pay him off if he did have it?) I call getting 2:1 figuring there's a lot of cards out there that can help me...

pot $30 turn J

board K Spade J Spade 3 Spade J Heart

now this was either the greatest play I've ever made or a horrific mistake I check it to him.... he of course pushes for his last 85$...

assuming he does have the flush I now have my redraws..

any A(3),J(1),K(3), 3 (3), or spade (7) total of 15 outs or,

if he has not flush 9 spades, for 17 outs..

is it proper play to call here?

Before you check on the turn you should say: "I have the boat, push if you want, but I have the boat. I'll even show you."

If he doesn't have the flush I'd say you have 40 something outs.

loooooooooooool, yea think I would do this as well. With my play style I would call and would be a rather easy call considering if he even has the flush for real. If the turn didnt help you could probably toss your hand but it improved your hand a great deal and I would call. So what happened anyways on the river and showdown?

Silly talk, you would have to presume he has something if he bet that amount. Your call should be based on the hand you have, in this case MPGK and the nut flush draw, after the turn trips & a boat draw. Sklanskys says strong means week & week means strong does this mean he has nothing. I think I would like to gamble here. Poker players have been known to tell lies.

This came up a long time ago and it was a great thread. It was a 1/2, 2/5 game at the Palms w/ big stacks. One player made a big raise and represented a flush, the other had the Ace and went all in. He knew that the other player did NOT have the nuts, since he had the ace, and was unlikely to call given the scenario (both local players, both had bought in for $100-200 and had $1500-1700 each, why waste all your profits on one hand vs a tight player).

I think when that turn hits you beat him into the pot and say "you cant fold your flush now".

yeah I was thinking about aces comment about saying I had the boat. Next time the convo will be somethign like this

"I have the flush.. just so you know... I'll even show you"

ME: "Well then let's hope the board pairs... I call"

turn J

ME: " allin... I have the boat... just so you know... I'll even show you"

then if he folds show him the A of spades..

yeah i thought about it for a while and made the call... he shows 56 spades for the flopped flush... river is a 3 pairing the board. He jumped up and started bitching about me going runner runner on him...

He probably told you he had flush to get you off your hand im guessing knowing his hand is made but doesnt have much room for improvement.
