NO Limit house game stradegy.

Hello guys I play in a home game 2 times a week.

Its Texas Holdem NL 40.00 buy in.

The Small/Big Blinds are .50 1.00

Its a "Friendly game" so its not like anyones trying to make a living at it...

Its also good because out of the 10 that usually show up only about 3of them really know good poker fundamentals I.E. protecting there hand, pot odds and ect.

The other great part is that 80% of the time you can see the flop for a dollar and on top of that its usually a "Family pot" so if you see the flop it usually has about 8 dollars in it.

The other good part of it is that even if you raise the pot 400% and make it a 4 dollar bet most of them call anyway becasue its just 4 bux....
* this is why some of the "proper poker players" at the table get aggrovated because they cant /;push anyone off a hand"

O.K the reason I said all of this is because I want to know what you guys think would be the best way to dominate a game like this.

To add one more note , its a table where you have 2 "Rocks" agressive players that only play sklansky hands and ocasionally get loose when in position. 4 players that are just loose passive and the rest that might show up tend to be passive calling stations.

What would be the best playing style?

To just see most the flops if you have connectors, 1 apart connectors, A X Suited, any pocket pairs and then raise heavy with high pocket pairs?

Virtually every hand is going to get 1-8 to 1-10 for the money.

Or would it just be better to play ultra premium hands and just take them out that way?

I dont see anything on the net that really talks alot about home games with micro limit blinds that are NO limit to where "betting logic" is ignored.

I.E. If im on the button and everyone limps in If i do a 500% raise to make it 5.00 to see the flop 75% of the time EVERYONE will call!!

its great and Ive make some pretty good money but it seems i get into trouble wanting to see the flop almost regardless what Im holding unless its something like 2 7 or 4 10 ect....

any tips to dominate this situation....

thanks

I used to play in a game like this... It's tricky cause of all the chasers...

What you need to do is find a raise amount that actually makes them think. If they don't want to respect a 4$ raise then next time go to 5$ and so on, eventually they'll start thinning out.

When you can get it down to 2-3 players preflop you then have to identify the calling stations who will chase you down with nothing. Don't just keep trying to push them off the pot with nothing.. for them you can check down unless you hit your hand then you bet and they'll just pay you off... The rocks on the other hand you can use your continuation bet to get them off their hands...

If you have a true maniac at the table like I did, you can use his style against him.. let him push you off your hands when you don't have the greatest holding... then you can check and call his push when you have a monster.. DO NOT get fancy with anyone else..

Now this is all pretty standard and from what I gather you already know it, but there's not much more to it. Just learn to show them your authoritan.. Also what I used to do at the beginning of the night is if you do have a hand like say TPTK and you got a fold out then show your pairing card. Just to let them know they made a good laydown. Eventually you'll notice that they WILL tighten up against you. When you notice you get a lot of foldouts then you can open up your game. Nothing too hard... Just standard stuff..

I made the mistake of being the only one at the table that goes there more "serious" than the rest ..... So i guess really the only thing i need to do is re-read my mike caro book because he said something to the effect of...

...have a good time with them and take there money because if there all having just a good time it dont matter....and if you act serious it might make them play better due to feeling its a "threating" environment.

The cool thing is theres only really one "maniac" and typically he buys in 3 times 120.00 total then leaves lol.

he(the maniac) was there last monday and he lost 120.00 and left lol

well i wasnt sure if i was approaching the same right but it sounds like I nailed it on the head but I just dont know why theres not really any notes off the net to really layout a game like that.

thanks for the reply

the maniac at our game pretty much made the game... we would play .25/.50 with a 20$ buy in and it wasn't unsual for him to drop 100$ in about an hour. One time I showed up an hour late and for 9 people at a 20$ buy in game there was almost 500$!!! at the table the SS had at least 60$ in front of them... for example this is prob the the biggest pot i've seen for these stakes...

I'm in the BB and get A-10spades

UTG raises to 4.50 (yes 18 times the BB) EVERYONE calls gets to me (maybe a bad decision) but I push for 20$ total.. I get 5 callers..

flop comes K high for 1 spade... crazy betting and when the dust settled I hit runner runner for the main pot and the side pot had 150$+ in it...

about 2 hrs later me and my buddy had all the chips infront of us and I cashed out a nice 280$ off my 20$ buy in

Thats great you won that night....

Tonight I was on my way to having a great night and one of the super loose players called a 95.00 bet into a 35.00 pot.

I had 9d and jackC and the flop came 7d 8d 10s so i know i have the best hand they super loose retard thows 10 into the 15 dollar pot then gets another caller then i go all in because I dont want anyone to get a higher straight or a flush.

well the super loose calls and catches a 3d next card.

that sucked big time......

Well i think im gonan have to lay off poker for a while to get over that one.

well the tip of the day is ...... I shoulda re raised 20 and if she called that seen the diamond then folded.....

hmm that didnt sound to hard right........a 130.00 mistake i wont be forgetting.....

That's just poker. You didn't really made a mistake, she did. In poker all you can do is put the money in when you have the best hand and hope for the best.
If you keep doing so, you will make money in the long run.

When you flop the nuts you want to put all the money in...

Sure, you can bet the pot (or actually a little more then 1/3) so she doesn't have odds to call. That way you protect your hand. If she calls, you make money in the LONG RUN, while she lose money. However what you do if she push? Do you fold the nuts just because she has a chance to out drawn you?

Even if the players are awful, the stacks are too short to be limping everything, or doing much of the 'call preflop to stack the guy' thing. It almost turns into a boring dichotomy for me:

Massive preflop raises with big unpaired cards and the middle-high pairs, and if the pot is 2-3 handed, pushing the flop most of the time. Maybe a little more trickiness with AA/KK, and other than that I'd look to limp into those big family pots in position with SCs and small pairs.

The most important advice, perhaps, is that in a game like this (loose, and short stacks), you gotta be willing to lose a buy-in or twelve in order to really take advantage.

Mostly though, don't concern yourself with 'style' When everybody calls with anything, just find a hand that's better than theirs on average, and bet a lot. That's not a style thing, that's just common sense.

Uhhhh MIKE B are you Almighty1????

You are talking about MYYYYY homegame bitch, I can't believe I didn't notice this thread until right now.

I've made about $1500 from them in the past 12 months :D

You really gotta play position well to make good money. If you are out of position, make a bigger raise PF - like $5 give or take the number of people in the game. After the flop you have to decide right away whether or not you are in the lead since the stacks are so small. It's donkey all-in poker, the bad players get pot comitted after putting $20 in and usually go all-in with A/x, any top pair and sometimes any middle pair.

Make BIG aggressive bets when you have a good hand.

Table image is pretty important. They thought I was a tight mouse for the first couple of months I played with them, and I occasionally got away with some big semi-bluffs/complete bluffs. My image changed because I got caught in bluffs from time to time. I also would bet flops with nothing and then show the bluff if I fold later in the hand. They know that I clean house, but they really don't have an image for me because I mix it up old school.

By the way, Almighty1 packed up and is backpacking all over the world right now, so when he said he's taking some time off poker he wasn't kidding.

Mike, I seriously hope that when you get back to canada, you'll come play in the game a couple of times.

Ricky isn't much of a Fish anymore, I love the way he plays poker. JD (the dooley's guy) and this young moron named shawn often donate a heckova lot of money towards my wallet.

Two suggestions,

If 5x BB is not enough - raise more.

I tend to raise 3.5x BB + # of limpers. If you are on the button, and everyone limped in, in a 8-handed table, I'd bet 3.5 + 5 (limpers) = $8.5.

---

You only have 40x BB, so this is not particularly deep stacked, I'd play premium cards and pocket pairs only in this format. Get in cheap with the pocket pairs and look for a set. Or raise big with AA-QQ, AK-AQ. Try to avoid raising the limpers with hands like KQ or KJ or AT or pairs JJ-88.
