Varying blind times in home tournament |

I've noticed a tendency to have (or want) varying lengths of time for home tournaments that I've played in. Basically, the blind levels shorten in time as the tournament progresses. For example, the game starts with 20 minutes between blind levels, gradually shortens to 15 minute blinds and eventually has 8 minute blinds late in the tourney.
My question is, do many people do this? Is there a reason NOT to do this?
I'm sure the reasoning is to keep the action moving late in the tournament, but I'm thinking adding antes to the levels might achieve the same thing.
Thanks in advance!

haha I live right by ya, should invite me to your game sometime:P
Personally myself we change the blinds every 9 minutes. But we only play with a few people so. Why 9 minutes? Because thats how often my snooze alarm goes off on my phone

I hate the idea of shorter rounds as the tournament wears on... that's the reason why blinds increase. Shortening the rounds takes what little play there is late in tournaments completely out.
If anything, I think rounds should be LONGER late in a tournament.
And yes, antes will speed the game up quickly, but the problem is that at home games, there are often retards you have to remind to ante every hand, which inevitably slows things down. I cut them out in my home game.

Thanks. I guess I'll try antes and see how they go.
