Spent an hour yesterday at a table with the biggest (and luckiest) fish I've ever seen. It was 0.50/1.00 FL ring and this guy would play 80% of pots with the crappiest cards I've ever seen. Raised pots didn't mean a thing to him. He cold called two bets with hands like 83 suited, K2 offsuit, etc. Not only would he play these cards he would call down to showdown with anything at all, including unsuccessful drawing hands.
The problem was he could literally have anything. I was up against him twice with big pocket pairs in my hand and middle loosely coordinated boards. (By loosely coordinated I mean that two normally unlikely cards such as 4,8 or 3,6 could have made straights.) Even though I was terrified of this guy I kept betting and it worked out for me. (One time I flopped QXX to my AQo, the turn gave me QQQ A kicker, and this guy picked the one time in the whole session to try to bluff me with his K3 offsuit.)
But I did watch this guy devestate several other players when he made two pair, often on the river, and an occassional straight or flush. He also took down several large pots when he called aggressive preflop raisers and ended up with the only pair at the end of the hand. (In one hand he called UTG with 72 suited and then cold called two raises behind him. He flopped a pair of sevens and ended up taking the hand from two players with AKo/AQo who came up dry.)
Any thoughts on playing this guy--especially his potential for having anything in his hand at showdown?

same as any calling station... don't try and bluff him... when you have a hand just keep betting away at it...

Ran into another of these guys last night. His claim to fame seemed to be calling with any two suited cards against any raise (fixed limit ring). Anyway, he stumbled into flushes, two pairs, and unlikely straights often enough to keep him afloat.
Just like the first guy I wrote about you quickly got to the point where you didn't trust your overpair or top pair as this guy could have two pair to a horrible board. A semi-coordinated board in the 3-10 range was also a concern as was any 3-suited board.

if all he is doing is calling down then there is nothing you can do but keep hammering away at him when you have a pair... if he's raising and betting at you then you simply switch to check/call mode.. there really isn't much more you can do.. just be thankful you'll get to take his money in the long run...
