Well... I feel like an idiot but, what hands can a straight and a flush beat?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

The order of hands in poker is as follows (from weakest to strongest):
High Card (eg A,8,7,6,2)
One Pair (eg J,J,A,3,4)
Two Pair (eg 10,10,7,7,3)
Three of a Kind (eg 4,4,4,A,Q)
Straight (eg 10,9,8,7,6)
Flush (eg 4,5,7,Q,A all the same suit)
Full House (eg A,A,A,6,6)
Four of a Kind (eg K,K,K,K,9)
Straight Flush (eg 3,4,5,6,7 all the same suit of which an Ace high straight flush is the highest (aka Royal Flush))
So a straight can beat a high card, one pair, two pair & 3 of a kind but a flush can beat all of those AND the straight.
Hope this helps
