Betting/Raising Question

Posted Sun Feb 11, 2007 10:15 pm GMT by bogeygolfer8
Scenario:

No limit tourney

Player A posts SB of $10
Player B posts BB of $20
Player C has $25 in chips and goes all in

Player D has $500 in chips. Does player D have to post $40 ($20 + the min raise of $20) to stay in?

Or can player D just put $25 out there and let the hand play out?

Let me know if more info is needed.

If he wants to call its $25. If wants to raise its the minimum bet, as $20 is the minimum bet and we already have $25 from the all-in then he needs to raise it the minimum bet $20 making the total commitment $40. The all-in $25 becomes to main pot and the other $15 in this instance will create a side pot along with any other calls exceeding the all-in $25.

Clarification please.....

1) the Min raise is $20 since the BB was $20 - Correct?

2) My thought is that Player C raising (though he didnt have enough chips) requires player D to post $40. Correct?

3) Assuming my thinking is correct and all 4 players are in and there are no further bets on the flop, turn or river.....

is the main pot $100 ($25x4 players)

and

the side pot $45 ($15x3 player).

No. If player D just want to call then he have to put only $25 - no more.

Player C's bet doesn't constitute a raise because it is not at least half of a legal raise. He's all-in for $25; everyone else who wants to play will have to (at least) call that.

Any raises would have to be to at least $40; you must raise at least the amount of the raise coming to you, or go all-in (as C did) if not possible.

Now, let's say the BB had 25 instead and everyone else was deep. If it were just called around to him and he raised all-in, that does not re-open the action, because it's not at least half the minimum raise. Everyone else would have to call $5 to stay in, but no one else can now push in a huge bet to try to get the others off.

If Player C had $35 and went all in, it would have constituted a raise since it was more than half the legal raise?

Does this force Player D to post the $40 and everyone else needing to post $40 if they wanted to stay in?

Thus making the main pot of $140 (4x$35) and a side pot of $15(3x$5)?

So it appears the key is whether the all in is more than half of a legal raise?

I can understand this.

No. You can still call $35, but if you wanted to raise, you'd have to make it a minimum of $60 (It could be a minimum of $55 though, I'm not 100% sure.) It also re-opens the betting to everyone else at the table who's already acted.

Thanks again for the answers

In summary....

If the all in raise in more than half of the minimum raise, then it reopens the betting to everyone who has acted. But it can also just be called if you havent acted.

If the all in raise is less than half, it can just be called if you havent acted. Or raise if you have already acted. The question is how much you have to put in if you want to raise.
