LOL! I loved how "Dexter" was rolling weed right in front of what seemed to me like DN's mom.
Besides that this was pretty f*ck up and it got boring after a while (even thought it was jokes)

"phil ivey is not a black man like me"
Posted Thu Feb 15, 2007 2:46 am GMT by MrDarling
I admit it took me a while to really see threw Dexter, but I'm still not getting the joke.
And don't take it wrong, I think the guy is a God at poker and he does seem like a nice guy. Sadly is humor is on the ....mm... Canadian side?

Posted Thu Feb 15, 2007 9:34 am GMT by supafrey
just to set the record straight: a lot of canadians think this video is really, really dumb. and about the stupidest thing this egomaniac had done.

In the words of Peter Griffin.."Canadians suck".
This was funny. I don't think it will go over well with some groups and the possible silly or stupid backlash could hurt DN. Lets hope not.

Sounds like someone has a crush...

They are called opinions. We all have them and each one is as valid as the next.

What are you basing this on
Posted Thu Feb 15, 2007 3:35 pm GMT by LeafsFan1122
Equality?
I don't know. I say it's funny and you say it's not. There is no real answer, is there?

The authors of the US Constitution had the opinion that black people only counted as 2/3 of a person.
Hitler had the opinion that all Jews in Europe should be exterminated.
But, like you said...

Jokes: 2/10. Not really that funny.
Cool that he dares to impersonate a jamaican though, I bet it has shook up some opinions from the 'zomg, he made fun of a minority, nobody must do that, we have to treat minorities differently because we are all equals' people.

He responds to this in his blog at Cardplayer.com today.

I think that's a completely unfair comparison to make, and I'm also unsure of why you take this so seriously (and why I am too...). We're talking about two completely different contexts. You're comparing people in history and what they thought, to a person liking a blog... . You take what he said completely out of context and extrapolate it to mean that he must think that Hitler's opinion therefore is valid, something that is completely absurd. This topic is about a blog, and no one can have a definite opinion about a blog, or movie or anything in the realm of arts. When it comes to something more concrete like History, you argue with facts and concise reasoning where you can say with certainty whether something was good or bad. Sure one can say something like "I think Hitler was a great guy and was doing something good for the world", but you could never come up with arguements to counter the other side. However if I say "I like Negreanu's blog", I don't need arguement because it something more abstract, more of a personal preference. It's completely subjective rather then objective. (Of course in history there is always gray area).
Posted Sun Feb 18, 2007 10:38 am GMT by supafrey
history is in absolutely no way objective - but that's a digression.
I can't believe that nobody cares about the most obvious problem with this blog. It is STUPIIIIID. There are people that laugh at fart jokes or the handicapped - that doesn't make either of them good humour, usually, and Negreanu reaaaaally shows of his inability to distinguish between humour and bad taste. His impressions, while fairly accurate, AREN'T FUNNY.
And all the BS he spouts about "Canada" being different with our racism is absolutely bullshit. If I pulled anything like that in my area (fairly well mixed middle class) I'd still get my ass handed to me. Daniel talks about all of this being okay because he "only values the opinion" of his supposed two black friends ("i'm not racist I even have a black friend! ) but then he is clearly paying attention to the backlash.
He's never really been that funny, but just assumed that being "good-natured" is equivalent to that. There's a difference between people chuckling along with your lame jokes because you're such a happy-go-lucky guy and people actually thinking you're funny - somewhere along the line this guy's ego really bridged that divide. He compares himself to Dan Akroyd and Eddie Murphy and repeatadly asks how "they can pull off the face makeup" without realizing the key difference between those two guys and himself - they're kind of funny.

Don't you EVER speak ill of farts and/or fart jokes again.
Posted Sun Feb 18, 2007 6:50 pm GMT by tame_deuces
Well, though I didn't find the skit very funny either it has to be said that humor is subjective and unless a skit is very obviously 'racist' in theme you can't claim moral superiority for one skit over another just because you find the first skit 'funnier' on a subjective level.
Mocking a stereotype in jest, funny or not, is a far cry from racist, and I'd go so far as to say that if you CAN'T mock a stereotype then I think the society you are living in is probably very, very unhealthy.
I have no problems cracking a joke about somebody's background if I met them nomatter where they come from and AFAIK that has always losened to mood far more than it has made anything worse. It shows that you treat people as equals and spare noone. Nothing is as bad as some sort of tightrope-walking social dance with people from a different background where you feel afraid to insult their culture, it is just unnatural and you just treat them differently than you would treat anyone else, so you end up doing the opposite of what you want to do anyway.

Thanks for correcting my constitutional reference.
Yeah, I wasn't taking this seriously at all. Just winding him up.
Although Hitler did manage to rebuild Germany after WWI. Just took a huge military-industrial complex to do it.

blackface is poking gentle fun at stereotypes?

Whatever, I see this discussion elsewhere also. I get the impression you travel over the seas and people get hysterical about political correctness to such an extreme degree that I can't help but think your societies will never ever achieve successful integration of different groups.
I come from a country where 99% of the people wouldn't even raise an eyebrow over a female prime minister, where few cares if a representative in the parliament is a muslim or where the male minister of commerce is interviewed at home together with his boyfriend in the media just like you'd interview him there with his wife if he had one *shrug*. My outlook in this is different than yours, its that simple.
I quite simply don't see any malice or seriousness in it and most people from here never would, they'd treat it in exactly the same manner as someone impersonating some well known politican or whatever. I can't explain it, it just is that way.
So yeah, I probably see this with different eyes than yours, which makes it impossible to discuss really.

Toronto is the most multicultural city in the world. Your assumptions are wrong about my "perspective".

Actually I didn't assume such a thing at all. Norway is far from as ethnic diverse as Canada, something I know very well.

I was excited to meet his mentor. Then disappointed when i saw Daniel with his face painted black.
He is the man at the poker table. My favorite. But his acting, well it's a good thing he has poker to fall back on. I wonder what he really thinks about Johnnybax as a player.
