Was looking through the FAQ:
My score is higher/lower than I expected. Is this a valid test?
The Standard Deviation of our test is 15
The mean score is 100
Total test takers to date is 12,000+
The test is not intended for professional use. The test is offered for personal entertainment purposes.
So given that I skimmed through the test not giving much thought to my answers and I got 104..I might take it again later I try harder...it's just I don't really like taking tests of any sort.
Of course if I got "World Class" that'd be jokes.

I got a 121. And apparently I'm loose aggressive and play small pairs and bluff very well, but I overplay my big pairs. Weeeh.
And my head hurts from some of the absolutely mysterious situations. Solid tight aggressive players at 5/10 sure do limp alot in that test.

IQ of 110 ehh
my best play was at small pairs
worst with computational speed but i was doing this test while playing so i didnt care too much about that, all that memorizing and distraction messed up on my logic pretty badly.
says im loose and aggressive... i dont think that at all

IQ of 117, didn't go through it all that throroughly, but I am weak at hand selection and pot odds according to this and strong at computational speed, flop texture and playing small and medium pairs.
Nice little exercise.

Computational speed 0 but the boss came into my office.

Scored 116.
So why am I still losing?
btw, my computing speed was way low because I had to entertain my boy during the test...
My low medium pair is 79%. my lowest score is in pot odds. I know, this is my weakest point!
btw, I know why I am losing, when playing on the tables, I don't have anyone telling me how the players are. I do NOT know if the players on my table are passive, aggressive etc. Guess its time to stop multi tabling.
My MTT score is also below my average , I think I folded to the SS too often in the test... Which I tend to do in S&G and MTT's as well.
nice test.

Oh noez I am mediocre.
I was 4 tabling at the time though and I cba doing it again properly.

I bet they didn't like me re-raising occasionally from MP with a small-middle pair. I also don't always like these things, because I definitely caught myself second-guessing on set hands, looking for the spots where I figured "They probably want me to fold here, given the description of the player" and whatnot.
Not bad for primarily a limit player. I didn't need a test to tell you that tournaments weren't my strong point though
Kinda fun though. Might be worthwhile to go through and pick out a few situations and discuss a bit over in Theory.

103 here.
Scored highly in tournament play apparantly, but that was about it.
Have to say I didn't take too long over it; kind of a lot of questions...
Posted Thu Feb 15, 2007 3:10 pm GMT by exit music
Yeah this test was way too long I got half way through and then just started answering the questions randomly. Still pulled a 104.

105
strengths
position
small/med pairs
Logic
Flop Texture

Tournaments
Computation speed
bluffing
And yes I recognized the last question and answered according to the Outcome.

I've tried to take this twice today but keep gettng interrupted. Stupid phone! I did finally finish by randomly clicking on the last 8 or so questions and ended with a 96. I'll have to take this at home when I have time to pay attention to it. I did get high scores in middle/low pairs, position, logic and computation speed. Apprently I suck in tounament play, but that was nothing I didn't already know.

I love the way that everyone has an 'excuse' for their score. Why not just take the test properly or add 10 to your score when you post it if you think all these distractions have affected things?

Not me. I'm kinda happy with my score, considering I suck.
Yay, self esteem.
Posted Thu Feb 15, 2007 4:44 pm GMT by BeerWench13
I'll post when I take it at home. I'll probably get a worse score. Too many distractions at work. I actually thought I'd score lower, so I wasn't too upset.

114, pretty much average accross the board except I scored high on computation speed (which could also imply I don't take enough time to think things thru...)
I would love to see an answer key for this thing, a lot of the questions don't really have one 'right answer.' There were a couple of situations I wanted to limp/reraise and didn't have that as an option.

From the movie Rounders. The hand at the beginning of the movie where Mike loses his entire Bankroll.
Teddy had AA giving him the bigger house, and not the flush Mike thought he had.

the QQ hand where you flop a Q is from greensteins book too.

All the advice we get is to vary our game. In this IQ test some of the answer you give may not correspond or show a consistency with other answers you have given, or the correct answer may be the wrong answer because you are being consistent. You may in fact have to give the wrong answer to get it correct. If there is only one correct answer per question, then the only question is why should we vary our game. If we should vary our game the correct answer to every question is obviously wrong. Therefore If you are consistently wrong you may in fact be correct. If you answer question correctly as I thought I did you may get the same score as me 108. Obviously a top professional player who would have no consistency about his game should get the top score. So would it be correct to be wrong in this test?
Posted Fri Feb 16, 2007 2:21 am GMT by Jauron
I did some interesting stuff with the quiz, coming up with some pretty strict guidelines on how to answer the questions without reading them. I even did it once giving only random answers. Each time I got an average score and it wasn't much lower than my original lets answer the questions score.
I'll also say that I felt I was being compelled to answer one way serveral times, but I just ignored the shit out of that impulse and raised anyways, especially if it was a cash game question cause I planned to buy back in again if I was wrong.
Posted Fri Feb 16, 2007 3:35 am GMT by exit music
I did it the whole way through and scored an average 112
I scored highest in tournaments, flop texture and big pairs
Bluffing and pot odds were my 2 weakest categories
I think this further confirms that I'm a better sNG player than a NL cash player
Posted Fri Feb 16, 2007 8:32 am GMT by BeerWench13
Took it last night at home. Got a 101. Maybe I should play distracted? I seem to do just as well. I still suck at tournament play. I guess I'll have to make that my new focus.

Personally, I think the test is stupid because Hero plays SO BADLY to get you to the point of decision in a lot of cases that the answers are irrelevant. I got a 125, but I still think it was a dumb exercise.

I think that probably helps, if we're really trying to get a 'poker IQ' and not 'how good they do at poker' rating. IQ tests don't care that since you're a fry-cook, you'll never have to figure out which geometrical design comes next in a pattern. How unlikely a situation is may change your bottom line poker wise, but it doesn't necessarily change how well you should be able to analyze it.
About varying your game: "mixing it up" helps to prevent other players from reading us as effectively, making our overall strategy less predictable. It helps us get closer to 'optimum' if our opponents are playing very well.
There's obviously a line to be drawn, when the difference between plays is so large that there is only one 'correct' answer. There are also plenty of times when there is one answer that is clearly better than the others. Believe it or not, these make up an awful lot of the decisions you face every day... and in the context of the test, I don't think we really have to worry about our opponents being able to adjust correctly to us.

I took the test 3 times, first time thru I tried and got a 105.
Second time thru I folded every question I the option to and got a 95
Third time thru I raised or pushed every chance I got and scored a 96.
Hmmmm.

yah i know by the way i pulled the same move as the movie pushed on the river since i did not see any Oreo's at the table

I think the test overall was stupid... the questions lead you to a specific answer (ie, fold your boat cause the guy has the only hand that has you beat/last question)... but that's just not what you're supposed to do...
a lot of the situations were ridiculous... haven't we had discussions on not folding a set to a POSSIBLE flush/straight due to the redraws?... we don't worry about set over set situations cause they're so rare, stuff like that?
isn't the answer to like every situation, IT DEPENDS? the most correct answer isn't what the writer puts in just because that was the situation he saw on tv? What happened to things like how have you been playing up to this point, how does the villian see you, overall table image?
in the end there's no test you can take to tell you how good of a player you are... just look at supa... his style is technically incorrect at times but he manages to use his style to be a winning player (better than most other players I've seen)...
but I don't really know why i'm posting this... I assume everyone already knows/thinks this about the test but is just doing it for sh!ts and giggles...

My score was 111.
I've only played freeroll no-limit tourneys. Otherwise I've only played FL hold'em and O8b. So considering it was a no-limit test I think I did well.
Best score was on big pairs and small/med. pairs, both 72. Makes since since pairs are my favorite hands to play.

I think I have to agree with shorn here. The test puts you in situations that you should never get in in the first place if you were a decent player. Anyway, I got 136.
