What a strange evening

So, it all starts with me playing some backgammon, some random stuff, while poking around the interweb. As per usual I hopped on IRC, and as per usual I can't figure out why.

Quick backstory to those that may not know: I was 'semi retired' or at least 'on hiatus' from the poker thang. I hadn't played seriously since the fun legislation in around October. Since sometime in probably December-ish I hadn't played at all, save for one or two freerolls, and over the last week playing around with a free $10 from sportsbook.com ($70ish now, bitches! I PWN .10/.20 NL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Well I hop on IRC, and Supa is begging for money, also as per usual. (He just wanted some cash on Full Tilt to play in the FTOPS event. I don't want to start another "OMG IS HE/ISN'T HE BROKESKI" fiasco) and he said "Guess how much I have on Full Tilt." People started throwing out guesses like "$0.18" and "$-0.24" and I got kinda curious: what little bit do I have on there? I wanted to rail some peeps too.

So I logged on, and lo and behold: $101. Cool, who knew? Pavel says he's joining a 69+6 NLHE satellite to the FTOPS main event. On a lark, and out of boredom, I decide to join it up.

Worked out to be ~3 tables (I can't recall if it was a 3 table SNG or a smaller MTT) and paid three spots. Supa busted early, I wasn't looking too hot, but I fought through it, doubled up here, etc. etc. and managed to squeak into the payouts and get my entry to the Main Event. Cool. (Despite my AK losing to Keith Sexton's A5 AIPF... DONKEY!)

Well I grabbed some food, did nothing for a bit, and checked to see if any tourneys were going off that I could waste my last little "FT bankroll" on. I see that a seven card stud MTT was going off in <2 minutes... buy in? $24+2.

For those of you keeping score, that is precisely, to the cent, how much I had left on the site.

So I hop in, and flex my 7cs muscles. Again, didn't look too good early on, but I kept on fightin', staying near the bottom of the pack of ~70 until we got down to about 15 (Also of note: Got me a Heart Royal during that time... first royal in some time!) and I managed to build a nice stack. Not real nice though. When we got 3-handed, I had about 20k, 2nd place had just a hair more, and the leader had around 60k. Ruh Roh.

Well, we ripped him apart. From 60% of the chips in play (which was over 70 Big Bets at the time) to busto, in about 20-30 minutes. BOOYAKA! At my worst, I was down to about 16k while heads up, but I managed a key double up, and after about an hour of heads up battling, I took first, and nabbed $600.

Now this is far from life changing or anything, but it's just such a fascinating night full of cool coincidences... from the chance stumbling onto 101 forgotten dollars, to sitting down 2 minutes before the $26 tourney started while my account had $26 in it, to the Royal, to the back-to-back wins... Pretty friggin cool thing after a hiatus, I'll tell you what. Next step: nab 1st out of the 1.5m guaranteed prize pool in the main event. I think that's the easy part.

Nice read Snoo, and a nice evening for sure.

Its always nice to find surprise money and it is even nicer to put it to good use.

Am hoping to win a qualifier to the main event qualifier.
If you happened to sit with me at the table, be nice.

Well done, snoo! I love it when I put on my winter coat for the first time and find a $20 bill in the pocket. I guess it's similar. Nice to see you made something out of it too.

Stop teaching them how to do that. You're supposed to be the only one!
