Think its about time this section of the forum got a bit more life in it.
There are plenty of mtt players in our thp community so lets have it.
This thread is for results in mtts and maybe a little bit about how the mtt went for you.. and anything u noticed that you should try to avoid/ work on next time.
Been playing alot of mtts lately and busting out in ITM or on teh bubble under v unlucky circumstances. But this has forced me to look at my game more closely and i have spotted a couple of leaks that i have now plugged.
Played 20k gtd $109er on stars. just busted out in 13th. I came 13th in the big full tilt sunday mtt a couple of weeks ago. And 36th in the nightly 100k on stars and many many deep finishes recently.
In the 20k last night i played perhaps the best i have done in a while, i managed to have a v decent stack coming into the last 2 tables with no real hands to speak of. All my big pots were resteals from the bb, where sum1 had raised and i had moved in on them with trash. I had also stolen alot too. Then it came to the worst part of my game..... ALL ins... in teh last 2 tables (and most of the mtt up till then) i lost every all in really. Anway cut a long story short i lost AJ to K6, A8 to KQ, AK to QJ. I now had about 10X the BB and was pushing all in alot, i found 1010 and sum1 had QQ that took me right down and i was all all all in again, then lost K9 to 1010, then i was all in from the blinds a couple of times, managing curiosly to win an all in when i have v few chips.. eventually i called all in for 2X the BB with kc5c and lost to AK.
imghttp://www.imagehosting.com/show.php/232311_13thinmtt.JPG.html/img
Im more or less playing mtts full time at the moment. So i will be posting alot of results and exits etc in this part of the forum.
13th for $360, 22 left i was chip leader 7.3k for first. So im not happy at all really...
FTOPS main event is on tonight and i may play the sunday warm up and/or million.

| Quote: | Actually, it was a mutli table SNG. Played on FT in a $50+$5 54 player 6-player SNG last night and toughed it out for first. Picked up a cool $999 for my efforts. I started out slow, but hung in there and played fairly aggressive (playing 6 player tables means playing more hands!). When the blinds got up I managed to steal a lot of them by being aggressive. Once I managed to get the big stack I upped the aggression, using my chips to beat the other guys over the head .
When it got down to two of us I had a 2-1 chip lead. Buddy asks me if I'd chop once we got even in chips - 2 hands later I got him all in with AJ vs. A7 or something like that and that was all she wrote. (Is there a way to make deals on FT? Buddy was suggesting we just transfer the money to settle up. That involves way too much trust of someone I don't know!)
I think the biggest factor in my win was my ability to lay down hands. There were a number of situations where I had pretty good hands but just sensed that I was beat (especially when getting reraised) and laid it down - I'd rather lay down a winner than push it all in with 2nd best! A few times the other guy actually showed me his cards and confirmed my suspicions. One important factor in my win was being able to pick off small stacks once I accumulated a decent stack. Those guys will usually push with marginal hands, so I was willing to go after them with lesser hands than I might usually call with and pick up a lot of chips that way.
Let's hope this is a good omen for the main event tonight!

Other day I won a 180 man SnG at stars. Though its a SNG I kinda view it as MTT. First hand of heads up AQ VS 55 Turn=queen. And i win my first 100 man+tourney in 6 months:)
Posted Thu Feb 22, 2007 12:25 pm GMT by bcndiamond
I got in 6th yesterday at a low buy-in mtt.
The day before that i got in 7th in the same tourney.
$3 Speed Texas Hold 'em No Limit 6/500 21, February, 2007
$3 Speed Texas Hold 'em No Limit 7/500 20, February, 2007
$500 GUARANTEED 9/500 16, February, 2007
$200 Premium Freeroll 7/700 11, February, 2007
Ofcourse these arent the same mtt's you guys play in, but im happy with my result so far, after playing a month or so.
I had a big change to win yesterday, but I my AK lost to an A5, flop was AA5
Better next time, :þ
Tonight im going to play a satelite to a 10k at Saturday, wich is actually the biggest mtt at the pkr room where I play, and a WPT magazine freeroll, dont know what that is actually, but I hope it works out!

We need 9T suited here, he's been winning or Final Tabling the low levels MTT so often its seemed rigged.
I've only played a few, and managed to cash in all. Though I usually bust just after the bubble , the pay is not that big. Its still nice to cash.
I simple don't get a chance to commit to playing 4-6 hours that often.
Posted Thu Feb 22, 2007 1:20 pm GMT by shorn7
I took 6th in the BD $12k $100 +9 the other night. My best finish in quite a while for ($780). Was chip leader with 24 left, but went card dead, failed to become more aggressive at the bubble (9 spots paid; 100 players), and made the mistake of re-raising with A5s from the BB against another Big stack and had to give up after a called continuation bet. Bad move against the wrong guy.
Also have been playing some of the $20 + $2 HU NL matches on Stars. I like the format, but have done no better than the Quarters yet, so no big score.

1st last night at casino for £1,300 , and 3rd tonight for £1,190- Woulda been so sick if I got 2 consecutive 1sts but eh I ll take these.
Tonight I had a nice stack arriving at the FT but this one guy was running really really well, I made a very speculative call with A-5 on the river with just Ace hi! And was wrong.

A friend of mine had 3 final tables in the same month in these 10K player freerolls, which is absolutely sickening/unbelievable. I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it, which I did.

Took a horrible beat tonight in Stars hundred fifty grand. Guy in middle position raised, and one caller, back to me in BB, i push with QQ. Ends up 25k in the middle and called by A 7. Ace FCKING 7, of course he rivers the Ace to send me packing. Would of put me in top 10 chip wise. Sickening. But i did cash for my my money back and a little sugar. Tough to swallow though.
I currently have like 250,000 chips in the $3 rebuy. Not much consolation, but i'll quit crying now.

Last night I busted in a dissapointing 17th out of 1450 players in a PS $5.50 Mtt for a lousy $38. I was crippled with QQ when I called a shorter stack's all-in, he pushed with and rivered a king.

Just played for the first time in few nights on crypto, and won the £8k gtd for 2nd time in a row. £2,040 again.Exact same prize. Made 4 FTs in succession at casino before other night when i busted out 17th.
Despite an abundance of cashes lately , my roll isnt improving loads. And I know why it is, stupid wasteful things I am doing with my money. I.e. Paying my friend £50 to shoot him in face with BB gun, Payin to get my room cleaned, Betting £100 on stay awakes ( to win you have to stay awake as long as possible beating your opponent), and even other night I paid my friend to go to front of a packed auditorium at cinema and shout "god bless the harcore vikings"....that was funny tho lol.
Anyway, I got a massive headache so think I ll go get a drink.

Down to 16 in the crytpo 40k gtd.
I was chip leader but lost QQ to QJ and now AK to 66 so im in 5th now and looking like busting out soon.
this is what usually happens, i make it deep then lose every big pot if im far ahead or if im racing.

I feel your pain. I have had several big paying tournaments over the last couple weeks where i get all my chips in with the best hand to lose the lopsided race. Lost in Stars 150K last two nights with QQ vs A9 and JJ vs A7. Both of these pots were huge, and would of put me top 5.
GL to you kompis, hope you take it down.

made it heads up.... i was owning this punk heads up...
eventually all in preflop with AQ vs A9 he flops a 9 and scoops the £10k
£6.8k for me is nice, but i really deserved the first place. i realy owned him heads up and trapped him like a fking fish that he was. lucky sob/

i played a 5$ 2k gts on VC yesterday, finished 9th
after my JJ in bb was up against shorties AJ and big stacks KK
shortie pushed from CO, big stack on button just called,
and i felt so sick about his call but just didnt want to lay down JJ considering i was 2nd last in chips anyway.
I was hoping big stack would have AK or maybe smaller pair, but since shortie was all in also and i though if i win i have an slightly over avg stack and if big stack has strong hand he will take us both out anywayz
Posted Thu Mar 29, 2007 10:40 am GMT by Justin Monk
First off, congrats on your final table.
I know JJ and even QQ are hard to get away from, and even harder when shorty's will be pushing almost anything. But I think you have to muck your Jacks with big stack calling. There are just too many hands that can flop better than JJ. Not to mention the bigger pp's. You are at Final table moving up the ladder, my opinion is you don't have to take such big gambles with 9 left.
Please don't take this as a slam, because thats not what i'm trying to do. I know throwing JJ away is easier said than done.

I entered the 1000 fpp freeroll for a WSOP seat last night on stars. I played very well for the vast majority of it mixed with two boneheaded semi-slowplayed sets that both went runner-runner to screw me over..
Either way, only 1 person won a seat out of 500 entries and I came in 12th.
SO close, yet so damn far. Two hands continue to annoy me and I know I could have played this better...
Look for me in the $650s for the wsop seat...

blegh.. these consolation prizes are making me sick.... wheres my goddamned $1k+ PRIZE????
i had to get shovin, picked up some blinds here n there but mainly dwindled down a bit.. i had 50K in the small blind. (level: 4000-8000)the button raised all-in for like 70K.. for the SECOND time in a row.. i figured my A4 of spades had a definite chance of being the favorite. of course he had JJ this time...
anyway, im starting to doubt my final stages play... i have an easy time geting through large parts of the field, and even reaching the money. but every time i get there i see everyone around me shoving and doubling up (or busting out) and huge stacks being formed... no flop plays and i find myself trying to find hands to push with and when i find one i am usually still an average stack if i double up or im out after a coinflip.. any opinions on what i might do differently? do i need to start the shoving earlier with the risk of not making money at all?
i guess reaching the money so often is a good sign, and maybe im just trying to see something thats not there and its just a matter of having the cards fall my way...

Gap concept FTW. This call is perfectly fine in the late stages of a SNG or at the FT, but in an MTT when you still have 46K and 40odd people left you might just wanna fold here and wait till you can get some fold equity. Call equity isn't as nice.

finally
after quite some time i took down another MTT again just when i needed to
in last few weeks i've been rinding on 10$ i got on VC
it was ups and downs, anytime i got a bit more i took a shot at a mtt,
and well didnt have that chance for quite some time
but during night after i went bad in nl, and after 0-4 yesterday at 2$ hus
i thought the hell and with 13$ left i joined a 5$ mtt,
43 people entered and i managed to take it down for 86$
it helped to get lucky in 2 key spots
fist was with 8 left, i'm in SB with QT, shortie in CO pushes, i went over the top and BB who had 4k more then me at the time also pushed and showed KK, luckly flop came QxQ and my hand held
then when we got to 3 handed, i was really short like 3bb's but they even walked me 2 times and generally let me fold,
once i did push with K7 , bb called with Ax and flop came x77
from then on it was easy since they were just folding too much

well i managed my best feat so far ,
back to back final tables in VC poker 1R with 750$ GTD
played it on friday or thursday and finished 8th
today i was doing much better and ended 3rd for 76$ (first was 230$)
i should bust the 3rd guy when we got in AJ vs his A5s but 5 on flop doubled him instead of giving me a huge lead into HU
but i had my share of suckouts so its all good
funny tho i took chip lead early in 1st hour then ran JJ into AA, then 15 min later i was back at top3 chips
all in all played well not many mistakes and well tommrow i'll prolly go for it again

Finished 5th in Friday night's $30K guaranteed bounty on UB - picked up $1650 plus $80 in bounties for my efforts.
Finished 53 (top 54 paid) in last night's "Sunday Mulligan" on FT, picking up a little over $300. I was actually in the top 10 for quite awhile just before we hit the money then hit a dry spell with about 70 left.
Probably the defining moment (the one that effectively gave me the chip stack to make the money) was when I had a little over 11000 chips (when the average was about 13000) and I was dealt AQos. I raised around 4x the BB (600 chips, I think) and buddy in the BB raised it up to about 2400 (he had me covered about 3 times). I thought for awhile and figured him for a medium pair - if he had AA or KK and probably even QQ I figured he wouldn't have reraised quite so much since he probably would hope for me to either go over the top and then he could push or I'd call and then he could put it to me on just about any flop. With a medium pair he probably just wanted to take the pot down right there - hence the big raise. I figured I needed to double up sometime soon to have a chance at the money, so I figured I'd be happy to get into a race in this hand. I pushed and he immediately called and flipped over JJ. That's exactly what I was hoping to see. Needless to say, my A hits the flop and I double up.

14th in last night's UB $30K guaranteed bounty tournament. Took out 5 (2 in one hand when I flopped a set of 8's and busted pocket AA's after buddy smooth-called a small raise preflop). There was something like a 3BB raise, I called, the SB called and AA called. I think if I'm holding AA in that position I'm reraising to try to narrow down the field, but I'm glad he didn't. Picked up $500 for my efforts.

simply ran over the final table with my mad skillz until it got to final 3... then SS went into insane maniac mode (pushing 80k into a 4k pot)... never had a hand better than 10 high... couldn't find a spot to call him down...
Posted Fri May 04, 2007 7:49 am GMT by Gogie
Finished 8th last night in UB's $25K guaranteed at 9:30 pm ($1000). Was in great position when I made the final table but made a critical mistake against the big stack when we got down to 8. Chased a flush draw when I should have folded and lost about a third of my stack. I was tired by this time and lost my patience a bit. Buddy was making the right bets so that I was getting proper odds to chase, but I was a little too tired to play it correctly . Live and learn.
I've found that I've been playing much better lately because I've forced myself to be patient. I like the UB tournaments because the blind structure rewards good play and patience.
One hand of note last night: I knocked a guy out late in the tourny (I think we were down to 3 tables) who apparently was a pretty decent player. He was on my left and I had been making moves to steal the blinds when he was either the SB or BB and he was defending pretty good. One time I got him to fold after the flop. The next time I got dealt AK and raised (obviously this wasn't a steal attmept) and he immediately reraised significantly. I thought for ahwile and then typed in "not this time" and folded. He showed me his AA. The hand I knocked him out I was dealt T8os in the SB. Folded around to me, so I raise the pot to try to steal. He immediately reraises the same amount he did the last time he was the BB (with his AA). I thought for a minute and decided not to back down this time (I had a pretty good stack). The flop came out Txx. I bet out to try to take the pot down right there. He pushed all in. I thought for a bit and figured the best he had was overcards, so I called. I was right and my tens held up. He was pissed off, calling me a fish. I just laughed and continued on to the final table.
Sometimes it might seem that my calls are suspect, but at times I really get a feel for what the other guy has. I've been right more often than not, but once in awhile I get burned.

dumb luck prevailed in this win... I won whenever i got my money in... every coinflip every time i called on a draw to overpairs...
even on the final table alone flopped a flush and a boat.. then when getting my money in on a flush draw... it hit... TWICE.... and each time i got all my money in the middle...
it's about damn time...

Another successful day at UB. Won a $60 satellite into last nights $75K guaranteed ($530 buy-in) and made the final table, finishing 8th and picking up just over $3600! I was ecstatic to just make the money as I was way down with about 38 left (top 20 got paid). I had about 6600 chips when the avg. stack was just under 12000. I decided to get aggressive and stole a few blinds and worked my way back up. Overall I was quite happy with my play. Didn't get a lot of great hands but managed to win a few big bluffs and had some luck when I needed it. The biggest luck was when I got all in with QQ against AA when I had him covered, but not by alot, and spiked a Q on the flop to crack the A's. This was mid-tournament and at the time I thought it put me well on my way to the money. Later I got sucked out when I pushed after the flop and had buddy dominated but he hit a runner runner flush that crippled me down to 6600 with 38 left. As noted above, I managed to fight my way back into the money.

And I was actually thinking of taking a break after a prolonged slump! Ten days ago I decided to take one last crack at a couple of tourneys and see what happened and take a break if I didn't have any luck. Fortunately I got lucky!
I'm still looking for my first MTT win, but making a few final tables every now and then keeps the bankroll healthy!
I've found UB to be very much to my liking for tournaments. The blind structure is great - it allows you to be patient and rewards good play. I've left FT for now because I found it to be too wild for me - not quite as bad as PP but still too many LAG players for my liking, especially considering the blind structure. I've taken a few stabs at PS but without much success (although last night I noticed I had $67 in my account from cleared bonus money, so I built that up to a bit over $400 by winning a $55 turbo SNG and coming 2nd in a $100 SNG.) I like PS but I think the players there are the toughest on line so you really have to be on your game to be successful. I'm hoping to build my PS bankroll up a bit more so I can play a few tournaments there.

My first turn in this thread. Ignore the monetary amounts please, I feel a little humble next to the likes of Ciso.
VCPoker, $5 buy-in $2,000 GTD - 2/526 players
2nd place is both a yay and boo moment for me. Yay, I came 2nd out of 526 players which is a personal best, boo because I've still never won a MTT in 8 years of poker and also boo because the top prize happens to be almost the exact amount of money I need for a certain thing I have planned in about 12 weeks time and it would have made the decision to do it very easy as it's 'free money'!
HU was long and for the entire time, I was dying for a slash. I really mean dying too for the last 10mins or so, like I'm drinking from a pint glass and seriously considering draining it and then using it. I figured I'd left it so long I'd easily piss more than a pint and then I'd be stuck, dick in hand with a rapidly filling pint glass and in no better place than I was clutching my weiner trying not to piss my pants. I would say it affected my concentration a tad but not too much
Final hand was KJ vs 22, the 22 held and as gutted as I was, it meant I could piss which was perhaps sweeter than any first place I could have won

i just had some horrible bust outs in tournies these past few days..
in a $55 freeze out. 25K guaranteed, all-in pre-flop with QQ vs 99. 20K chip in the pot which wouldve given me the #12 spot out of a 100 left... 45 got paid... flop 9-8-3
then another $55 freeze out. 3 way all-in pre-flop with my KK vs JJ and AK. flop A-rag-rag
lastly, a $8.80 rebuy. all-in on J-T-2 flop with KJ against QJ.... turn: 9, river: 8. i was reasonably short stacked here but still, a double up wouldve gotten me an above average stack.
pretty dirty.... probably the wrong forum for this lamenting but hey, who cares!
nice cashes Geno, Master Shake and Gogie!

One thing that I really like about VCPoker is how responsive and fast it is. In the 2mins it would have taken to piss the amount of liquid I was retaining, at 10,000/20,000 blinds with 400,000 chips each that would have been a serious hit to my stack I thought so I hung on. Not sure the old fella will ever be the same mind.

I just went deep in a $3R at VCPoker - 12th out of 760 players
Peak was 3rd with 12 left but a couple of button moves which ran into big hands chopped my stack in half and then it all ended with my 99 called by AQo which paired the Q.
A meagre $55.60 instead of the $1,391 for 1st I was after.

Oh dear god, it happened again:
VCPoker, $5 freezeout, $3,500 GTD
2nd out of 902 players for $631
Final hand below. We went to HU about 300K vs 1,050K so I was in trouble early. After getting raised every hand, I called pre-flop with K5s, flopped the 2nd nut flush draw with bottom pair, shoved and was called. A little tear rolled out:

The madness continues:
VCPoker, $5 freezeout, $1,500 GTD
1st out of 544 players for $694
     MY FIRST EVER MTT WIN
The crazy thing is, I've only played about 6 MTTs at VCPoker, all have been 500+ players and I've taken 2nd, 2nd, 1st, 12th and two no shows.
Heads up it nearly all went wrong when a truly horrible thing happened. Feel my pain:
As you can imagine, after the flop I'm just hoping to turn a flush and when I do, I'm baiting the guy all the way. I was so sure when he pushed over my river bet that I had won
That left me with 107,000 chips but by the break which was 2m30secs later, the chip counts were 490K to me and 340K to him! I won it within 5mins of the restart with a nice final hand:
Me 83o
Him 32o
I completed from the SB, flop A33
Min bet called on the flop
Turn J
I raise his turn bet and he shoves over the top. I call and the river is an 8 to stop the split pot!

The hand history at VCPoker is in images not text so posting them up is a bitch. Here goes though:
1) cooler hand - left with 107,222
2) (SB) - fold
3) (BB) - all-in 77,222 more, villain folds
4) (SB) - fold
5) (BB) - villain completes, I check, flop , check check, turn , I check, villain bets 20,000, I fold
6) (SB) - all-in 77,222 more, villain folds
7) (BB) - villain completes, I shove for 87,222 more, villain calls with , board
8) (SB) - I raise 45,000, villain folds
9) (BB) - villain folds from SB
10) (SB) - I raise 45,000, villain calls. Flop , villain checks, I shove for 189,444, villain calls with , turn , river
That puts me on 488,888 and it's break time

Finsihed 2nd last night in the UB $30K bounty tournament (I love this tourny!). Picked up $4650 plus another $180 in bounties. I was in position to win it heads up - I had a slight chip lead. However, I made a big mistake on the final hand. I was dealt 8s7s and raised with the villain calling. The flop gave me a straight draw, (as I recall the flop was something like Q65). I bet out and the villain called. The turn was a T with no flush draw. At this point I should have made my move but instead I thought I'd try to take a free card and hope to hit my straight. As it turns out, big mistake. The river was a K. The pot was pretty big - if I took it down here I'd have about a 2-1 chip lead - so I decided to try for it and pushed. Villain immediately called and turned over AJ for the rivered gut straight. Game over . I'm pretty sure that if I push on the turn he folds with nothing but a gut straight draw and even if he calls I've got outs with my open-ended straight draw.
Oh well, I'm getting closer to that elusive first MTT win.

Finished 4th in last night's $7K guaranteed bounty tourny on UB, picking up around $650. Got knocked out when my preflop push with AKos got beat by the big stack's ATos when he hit his T on the flop. If I win that hand I'm close to, if not already, the chip leader. I'll win one of these things eventually!
One interesting hand: We were down to 31 (with 30 getting paid). I was in a hand with a guy who was in the top 15 at the time (I had him outchipped by a fair margin). The flop was three small to medium cards, giving me middle pair with an overcard. Buddy pushes and I figure he's got nothing and I have outs if he has top pair, so I call. He had complete garbage (83os or something like that). Needless to say, I knock him out in 31st and he's totally pissed. I couldn't believe he tried to bluff with garbage on the bubble!

i'm pretty sure he bluffed becouse its the bubble

Just came a dissapointing 5th in the 55k on stars.
When i get down to the last 5 and not even make it heads up is certainly a dissapointment. However i was v v tired as id been playing since about 11pm in other mtts and it was about 10am wehn the final table got going. Basically i did did a re raise all in with Jd9d in the BBm the SB chip leadeer had been raising me over and over so i deicded to do a resteal with about 17bbs. he called with AK and i flopped the J .. but turn came K so he knocked me out. I should have waited really.. or seen a flop.
That was my main mistake late on, not seeing the flop. I was stealing enough and folding when others were stealing from me... but i a bit rusty after a month off... and i was v tired but late on when blinds are big its btter (for me at least) when i see flop in position and hopefully draw some value out of the opponent.... rahter than raise raise riase. Im not on top form , but to come 5th and the other night come 23rd in another large field is encouraging. Few lessons needing to be refreshed in my mind. $3.5k isnt too bad but really need to be getting those first places

Another final table last night in the UB $30K guaranteed. Finished 8th ($1050). I got my money all in with the best of it vs. the big stack on the hand I busted out on - TT vs AQos, A hits the flop, CYA later. If I take that pot down I have the chip lead by about 20K or 30K (it would have put me around 130K in chips). Oh well. I was lucky to get that far. Earlier on (shortly after the bubble but before any real money) I was in the BB, folded around to SB who pushes (he had me outchipped about 3-1). This guy had been pretty aggressive in stealing my blinds the last several orbits, so I decided this was the time to take a stand (no kidding ). I call and he turns over KK . Flop brings my third T and I double up. That gave me the chips to work my way to the FT.

How you doing for profit in 2007 Gogie? Seems like you are shredding UB this year!
Posted Wed May 30, 2007 5:12 pm GMT by Gogie
Believe it or not, I haven't actually kept track of profit and loss. I've taken about $10K out of my accounts and probably put around half that in, so I would guess I'm up near $5K this year. I play more for fun then profit, although obviously I hate to lose and I do need to fund my "play".

Had over 100k chips before first break, but blinds got absurd litle while after 2nd break and busted out.
All very small tournaments but i dont really have the bankroll for bigger ones -.- ill get to that later.
