a hand from Dutch poker forum

Posted Wed Feb 21, 2007 1:08 pm GMT by kingetje
this is a hand i saw posted up on a dutch poker forum i read here and there. i thought it was an interesting one.

i think he should call
my reasoning: villain would have raised the flop with a set/two pair. if not he would have folded the turn with a set/two pair. so a boat is highly unlikely

the only thing that beats ya then is a straight flush... and its pay off time if he has that

i also hated the check on the river.

i put the villain on something like KsQ /KsJ/ maybe KsT. thinks hero would not check the river with a boat or the As, thinks his second nut flush is best and pushes. bad fold IMO.

what yall think?

I haven't seen many tricky players that would be willing to slowplay a set or 2 pair on a board like this...

the river bet could be made with a lot of hands that we beat... the villian could have been chasing a K- high flush... and thinking we had say 2 pair or TPTK and didn't want to let a draw for cheap...

I'd say call and prob 70/30 we're ahead... but I play low limit... I don't know how different it is from .50/1

Smells like an attempted steal or a lower flush. Insta call from me...

i doubt its a set of js or qs since the villain didnt re-pop it preflop, i think check/calling a push is a great play by the hero here since it lets him catch bluffs easier.

Yeah I call it, and I like the check at the end.

yeah... i've been thinking about applying this strategy more to my game...

instead of value betting the river with my monster ( or any hand i'm willing to call a raise with for that matter)... check it instead... (this is assuming and averagely aggressive villian).. get in a c/r... this would also help getting a cheap SD if needed...
