is it allowed to show your holecards?

Just saw the 1981 WSOP on youtube and a guy made something interesting:

He was put all-in and while thinking if he will call, he turned over his holecards exposing an overpair...

Could be a way to get some information/reaction but i am not sure if its allowed...

First thing you have to do is check with the cardroom or TD. Some will, some won't.

If it's allowed, it is usually only allowed if you are heads up and there is no other possible action (e.g. the opponent has raised you all in or enough to put you all in.) Robert's Rules has a more indepth explination of this.

It's not allowed at the WSOP anymore and from what I know when you turn your cards up these days it counts as a fold, but you might wanna check with the cardroom you are playing at.
