The Check Raise

I used to not use this very much at all but recently ive been trying to incorporate this into my game a lot more. Im finding it to work very well in certain situations: Bear in mind this is small to midstakes full ring NL im talking about. Assume 100bb stacks.

1. I hold AA on flop T,6,2 rainbow. I made a standard raise preflop and got one caller. I made a standard c-bet on the flop and villian raises about 3 times my bet. I call and the flop is now 50bb~. Turn comes another blank and i check, villian bets about half pot and i quickly reraise all in. My theory here is that im not folding my AA on this board and a free river is unlikely to hurt me very much. Therefore i let villian expand his range to bluffs and weaker hands.

2. I hold AJs in the BB and and aggressive player (25%) raises to 5xBB and i call. Flop comes J, X, X. I check and villian quickly bets pot and i raise him a little less then 3x his bet.

3. I hold 77 on a flop T,T,x after calling a standard preflop raise from a tight player. I check and villian makes a fairly weak c-bet and i make a substantial raise with the intention of making a good size bet on the turn if he cold calls. My theory is theres a good chance im ahead right now coupled with the fact that he might fold an overpair thinking that i have a T.

I dont usually c/r if i have a monster or on the river. So what do you guys think of these moves and when do you use the c/r in NL cash?

all the c/r sound solid except this one... if someone has the T usually they'll flat call a flop bet and raise on the turn... when you're bluffing you need your betting pattern on the hand to match what you're trying to represent...

in this situation I find it (this is of course with only 1-2 other people in the pot) more profitable to call the cbet and make a standard raise on the turn to represent the set... if they come over the top without any major reads it's an easy fold...

C/R is pretty affective in micro levels.
Some players never believe a c/r and will call push with their rags.
Some players will notice you c/r and will be afraid to c-bet , or stabs at pot you check to them.

BTE, I agree about the c/r on a paired flop. If you open bet it might look like a steal attempt and he might go over the top or flat call and you have no idea if all he has is a A high, higher pair or he actually hit trips. If he calls or goes over the top, without reads it is usually an easy fold.. This is not bluffing , chances are you are usually ahead here.

I love the c/r. Being a low limit player bluffing isn't very effective so it tends to be a money saver to check/fold hands that are weak after the flop(i.e. Ax suited with only one to your suit).

I've even had other players say, "Ah just bet into him, he'll fold."

And in there lies the trap, by checking my power hands that have little chance of being outdrawed they bet into me and get c/r'd. After a few c/r I'll tend to get more free turn cards for my weak draws as well.

only time I lead is usually to protect hands that can get caught more easily, like TPTK.

This works best at aggressive tables, maniacs make it even better. If the table is weak then being aggressive and leading more works better.

It works best when you think the opponent is weak and will bluff....or when you know the money is going in b/c of stack sizes. C/R can sometimes increase their range of hands, b/c they might bet some that they would have folded if you simply lead out.

But....it can be a costly move, like another poster mentioned. If someone had a T on that board and you c/r the flop, I would let you hang yourself on the turn.
