Good call here

Posted Sun Feb 25, 2007 10:22 pm GMT by mackkie
I was really proud of this call I just made in this tourney. Was this a somewhat easy call here? Ballsy move because the 3 people involved in the pot all were top 50 in chips outta 600+ left.

After this call I was 4th in chips...it put my tourney life on the line and i had a very healthy chip stack.

Gor30

28 outta 83 left.

Was in 2nd most of the time until someone thought i was stealing on the button. I had QQ and he re-raised all in with A7o. You know what happened on the river...A

Yup--in the daily double A right now

As a little side note, i really like the idea of this jackpot tourney. Play in both the daily double A and B and try to win a % of the $35k jackpot.

$10+2 for both tourneys, both had 1000+ entries. 2 FT's wins 20% of jackpot, 2 wins get 75% of the jackpot. 2 cashes splits 3% of the jackpot with whoever else cashes in both. Finally the best overall finishes in both of them wins 2% of the jackpot.

Overall winner won an additional $650 last nite, not bad. I like the idea of this daily double, ill be looking to play in them quite a bit now.

With your M on that last hand I push probably every time.

I do not raise when I have less then 10XBB. By pushing you put him on the hard decision. in this case, if he his any good he would have called and you both have made the right move.

But I would not raise/call unless he steals a lot.

Yeah, those daily doubles look sweet. Sadly, $10 MTT is still out of my BR. I'm just ready to go into $10 S&G.

It was kinda push mode for both of us.

We had ~10x bb each. I thought this was a solid hand for me to steal, and call if i had to. In his point of view, i am just a small stack looking to get antes/blinds from the button. With his stack i would push back every time.

You made him play it right. His move is right to push with his Ax but its actually wrong to call a push with it without reads. His stack is still big enough so he can wait to a real hand or the be the first to push.

IMHO, your play in the first hand was typical of many internet players and was incorrect. You had no way of knowing you were ahead after the turn (in fact, I would say that you had to assume you were behind) so you were putting your tournament life on the line for a draw for which you were not getting proper odds. That's not to say that the guy who pushed made the right move (his raise was way too high for a steal, which is what he was trying to do) but that doesn't justify your call.

Calling a raise and a subsequent call with pocket 3's in my view was a weak play. That's a pretty weak hand and almost every time you will have to hit your set to win. It's worth getting in with on the cheap but certainly questionable to call a raise with. You were on the button, so I can live with the call, but it's still marginal. After the flop you've got to be ready to fold to any significant bet if you don't hit. I would say that probably close to 4 out of 5 times you're going to lose that exact same call after the turn (you're at least a 78% to 22% dog if you're behind after the turn).
