What are you doing with AQo in a position like this:
UTG+1 limps (unknown), a MP player raises (23/11 and a little passive postflop), an unknown cold-calls; and we are on the button with AQo?
This came up twice today. I mucked both times but what is everyone else thinking?

I think cold calling in this situation is probably OK.

According to Sklansky's low limit, cold calling is almost never ok.
I can't remember why, and I am not a limit player. So I just repeat like the fish I am.

I'd probably do the same. Might 3-bet occasionally if I could get it heads-up against a passive player, but that caller in the middle mucks up the works.

I don't think 3-betting is out of the question. We've probably got an edge on the initial raiser's range, and we might as well give the cold-caller as much incentive to screw up and fold a pair when his set-mining fails. Mister 23/11 capping us sucks, but at least we narrow his range down a lot. And really, I while the opener may have us pretty well beat sometimes, I think it's very rare that the cold-caller has us smoked.
My guess is really that it doesn't matter much: the specifics of how a table plays, how everybody's ranges fall, how good we are, etc. that make our hand a profitable one, or a loser in this spot are probably way too vague for us to get a solid read on. I don't dig cold-calling here though since I'd like to get rid of as many folks as I possibly can, and the BB can come along with virtually any two reasonable cards if we cold-call.

I think the three examples he gives are specifically AQo, AJs, and KQs. Those are about the only hands I can think of where I MIGHT cold call instead of 3-bet.

I cold call AQ but fold AJ. Too many still raise w/ ace rag to fold AQ here. There is really only AA KK QQ AK to fear. If they are raising w/ AJ A10 (or less) KQ or a donk raising KJ QJ you are a favorite.

Cold Call or 3 bet depending on table. I don't think I'd ever fold unless the raiser was supertight and he doesn't get out of bed in the morning unless he has AA/KK/QQ/JJ/AK
