Bet and Strength

One question that I have is whenever ever someone raises I get alot of "Fold cause the players shows strength". Everytime a player raises me I should fold? For some reason I just cant buy that and I hear that alot on this forums, if you arent holding the dead cold nutz you should just fold. Isnt the reason we sit down at a table and pick up information on players to use in a tough spot were a reraise could be a raise on a draw from a player and you smell the BS from him. Lets look at one example of a hand that went down at the 2/5NL live game.
A older gentleman to my right who was lets say is determined to get pots won when he has invested money in it. Will make huge bets on missed draws and value all his monsters. On the button for a 6 handed game with kSpade 3 Spade and call with no raises. Softy is in the BB and check, flop comes 10 Diamond 9 Diamond 3 Heart . Softy leads out for 25 dolllars, with a fold its on me and I call to evaluate my hand on the turn. It brings 4Heart and Softy now checks. He just now almost completely gave his hand away with this check. My best guess he is on a diamond draw so I bet out with 50 dollars with my pair of 3's and king kicker and he calls. River brings J Club and now Softy leads out with with a 125 dollars bet. I go into the tank for about 5 minutes to think this over. I have bottom pair with good kicker, pretty crappy hand however lets think about what he could have. 7/8 is probably the biggest hand he could have but he knows that I would fold to a bet like that with no hand and with a set I believe it would be in the range of a 75 dollar bet to squeeze more money out of me. If he had ace/x would of been a raise preflop no matter what his other card was so trusting my insticts and read on Softy I called. Sure enough he flips over 3 Diamond 8 Diamond with a disgusted look on his face when I showed my cards.
Any day of the weak I would of folded this hand no problem and find no real reason to get involved with a a player in this type of situation. However when you get the solid read, you sometimes just have to pull the trigger. flame away

what's the question?

Pretty much agree with everything you said. Just want to add that in uncertain situations, or in situations where you have nothing at all...but where you are sure your opponent has little the majority of the time, raising (or shoving pending on stack size) can be superior to calling.

Actually an opponent shouldn't get very much out of line before folding top pair good kicker type of hands vs him for one show of aggression becomes a very bad idea.

I agree with the OP in principle, in this specific hand, wouldn't in be easy for him to have a flush/straight draw that includes a Jack. I hate that river card, but it looks like you made a good play.
