An overpair, JJ, or a very oddly played AJ are all reasonable guesses given that I know nothing about villain's play up to now. But from the betting actions, those seem about the only available hands he can have (I guess quad 4's pr 8's full are other, more unlikely, holdings).

well, indeed he had 2 Aces.
i was pretty amazed at that.. how the hell does he raise that river when the board pairs after i check-raised a raise on the flop, then lead out twice on the turn and river?
pretty crazy... he must think AA are uncrackable
