Ok, I'm a little unclear on exact blind and stack sizes.

But it sounds like he had less than half the max buy-in when the hand started if the minimum raise on the flop was half his stack, I wouldn't feel all that bad about going broke here, because all sorts of low limit donkeys will make this move with 44-JJ.

That's usually a red flag: either he's a complete donk, or he wants to make sure he gets as much as he can in.

He called 5bb preflop, so it screams of an over pair here. Would he really call with 3x? If it were the KK we'd think he'd have reraised preflop, slow played aces we can't really dodge here.

Him hitting quads... lucky fish. He shouldn't have called 5bb looking for a set to begin with. So the play wasn't bad. We didn't want to see a paired board, but who would have thought he called in with 3s. lol

Well, here I kinda disagree. Depending on his stack, calling 5x BB raise hoping for a set might be fine. Say I have a 100 BB stack against someone of comparable stack size. I really don't mind investing 5% here, because the bigger the pot size early in the hand, the more likely it is he goes broke if I hit the set. If his stack is a lot smaller than that, this is probably a bad play, as you said.

As for the paired board, as far as flops for QQ go that don't include a Queen, this is one of the best flops I can think of, because the odds of him having trips (or quads) is so remote. People don't just play in big pots with 2x that often, unless they have exactly 22. I'd much rather see a paired board with low cards (like 3-2-2) than a flop like J-T-7, where an opponent could easily have a set, two pair, a straight, or some kind of good draw to beat me.

Yeah, I love low paired board when I have a pair.
His move screamed of a pocket pair. Sure, there was a small chance he had 2's , but not for a second did I consider 3's (though I was a dog to both)
If his stack was any bigger I might have folded. Though I doubt it.

I think a lot of players make the same move with 7's - T's .

Damn, had a bad cash session, I sat with $12 (in $25NL) and he had around $9. A while after (reloaded and built to $16) had J's , raised to 4XBB. Guy next to me push AI with $25. I called, he had AK . Flopped an A and my river J just completed a set for him.

Well, at least I took down a $5 36 players S&G and 2nd in a $10 9 players. So I'm in profit.
