Have been watching a couple of video of people players and was surprised to see Poker Trackers stats displayed within the software. So you sit there and you can actually see how often this dude raise PF, how often does he fold to a blind steal, fold to a c-bet etc..
Say what you may, I think this is a huge advantage. Damn Mac.
Do you guys use it this way and almost relay on it?

I down loaded poker tracker to see how it worked, they have 1000 hands trial without purchase deal. I could not get it to display the Villains details whilst playing. Is this just me?

To go along with poker tracker you get pokerace hud. This shows the live stats you are talking about, and yes this is very helpful. PA HUD also shows mucked hands on some sites which is nice to.

First I was stupid and would just make reads like, "loose," "tight," "aggressive," etc. Then I got smarter and bought pokertracker and started looking at certain people when they sat down to get my reads. Now I'm a genius and use pokerace HUD.
Bottom line: its a small investment with almost no downside, why wouldn't you use it?

I use hud and PT yes, it is a good aid. As for relying on it...it is a nice tool and statistics will usually be far more accurate than any 'reads' people might have.
But stats don't cover special cases that may be outside the normal plays for a villain too well. Like...did villain just call you on a big bluff, is he steaming etc, so you need to look (but not look too hard, or you'll find them when they aren't there ) for those situations.
And stats based on small samples may be way off.

I have not bought it... somehow it seems a little shady to me that you can track results of people you've never played with and then get that data for "free" when you sit down with them. Negates an important facet of the game in my mind.
However, with so many people using it, it seems almost a little foolish to go without it. Perhaps I should just give in and get it. Frankly, I think that as of late I could use a little insight into my game.

Poker Tracker only keeps stats on people that you are sitting at a table with, unlike some other programs, so it is a lot less shady.
I think that you should definitely make the investment, not only is it a useful tool, but it gets you thinking more smartly about your opponents.
EDIT::::
PLUS it gives you TONS of invaluable information about yourself

Does PT work for non holdem games? Like Omaha?

There is a different version for Omaha

In the long run, the analysis of your own play is worth at least as much if not more than tracking opponent statistics, IMHO. The HUD is really a side function of the program. The amount of data the program can crunch about every single hand you ever play is very impressive.

No, you can datamine with PT on tables you do not play. All PT really does is read HHs from your harddrive and most sites store all HHs there, as long as you have tables open.
A few sites tried to circumvent this but not storing HHs on the harddrive, but innocent workarounds were made in most cases AFAIK.

I'm not using Poker Tracker, but Poker Office which is very similar. To me it's pretty much a must to have a tracking software considering all the advantages. Besides getting statistics on your opponents, you know exactly how you've been doing and the software helps you to analyze your game.
I'm not saying I wouldn't be able to win without it, but I definitely wouldn't play without it voluntarily.

I noticed that PA HUD was mentioned in this thread so I decided to give it a shot and download it. Even after going through the preferences and layout manager tabs, I can't seem to figure out why:
a) the figures at the botton right of my PS screen are N/A still. (though I think it's because it's a tournament - correct me if im wrong).
b) my other PS tables aren't even altered at all. (so there's no numbers or anything imported).
How can I get my opponents stats to go beside their names?

I figured out how to set it up, so now I just need some clarification.
What do the numbers mean?
For example, beside one of my opponents it says:
48.1 (in green)
0.86 (in green)
9.3 (in orange)
54 (in purple)
I figure that purple is # of hands, orange is AF,
but im not sure about the greens.

By the looks of it, 48.1 is the VP$IP, 9.3 is PFR, 0.86 is AF and 54 is sample size.
The colours mean something different depending on which category.
VP$IP, >30 green=loose, 15-30 orange=semi-loose, <15 red=tight
PRF, Red for bigger numbers = more aggressive, green for fishy passive players, orange for somewhere in between
AF (aggression factor), Red = higher numbers = more aggressive. Lower numbers = more passive = more fishy = green
