I'm just going to continue to throw out different experiences I have at my local casino (Casino Windsor)
I registered for the 100 max 1/2 NL and the wait list is fairly long.
I grab a seat in the poker room lobby and soon the lobby seats are filling up.
Another guy grabs a seat across the table from me and we begin to make small talk.
it's funny how innocent he acted when we first started talking and then progresively he starts to give up more and more info.
I just found it amusing that the deception and poker faces started before we even sat at the table.
What parts of your game do you talk about and what parts do you keep in the vault?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

I generally don't talk much poker at the tables. I ask how long it's been since the cocktail waitress came around!
At the table I'm sociable, but don't ever talk strategy/theories with others. I'll let them instruct my on the "correct plays" and where I screwed up by calling on such and such street, etc. I usually reply with the old " I had a good feeling" line and ask the dealer where the damn cocktail waitress is.

I rarely talk at the table as well.
I guess this guy just was in game mode before he was at the table, nothing wrong with it, just an observation.
We weren't even discussing strategy. He wouldn't admit to even being in a casino before.....until later in the conversation when he started telling me about the crazy things he had seen happen in the poker room.

i'm normally a very shy person, but when I'm at a table I try to have a goofball attitude... I make joke and pretty much try to keep talking as long as I can...
this either annoys/tilts some people but also brings out the "gambler" in others... people like to play pots against me and will do so with lesser holdings cause they either want to bust me out of futration or goof around in the hand with me.... not to mention it makes a 6hr session go by a lot faster...
but like others said never mention anything about pot odds or outs or anything that shows you know what you were doing...
if someone lectures me on making a call or somehting like that wehn I was really getting proper odds to call I just say I felt I was due to hit...

I've never had more fun playing than the time I was at a table with a guy who was a dead ringer for Dan Akroyd.........never laughed so much in my life.

Yeah, I definitely avoid talking about how i play hands. Lately, I try not to talk the small blind. I'll do that only if her cup size is C or more.
Bring some headphones with you.
If he's an out of towner though, then I will start the chit chat and play them hard. Talk about luck and general gambling. That's always good.
The task really is to listen to their voice though when they talk. Especially when they are answering general questions honestly. When you end up talking to them when they are in a hand with you, they'll really tell you what kind of hand they have.
