Has anyone else notice players bettin really strange amounts in tournies? I play on Poker Time (used to be Royal Vegas) and sometimes people will bet 198.73 or 256.94.

They are probably just dragging the betting button across untill they find a number they are happy with.

I do it randomly to mess with people... a lot of people seem to interpret it as a strong hand because you are betting so deliberately... or so it looks.

When playing heads up, I make strange bet amounts for every hand I play, but I wont do it unless I'm always doing it.
I think I do it because I get bored when I play HU b/c you can't play as many tables so I entertain myself by making sure my betting patterns are hopefully as random as possible and difficult to read.

I thought it was too make it look like (physchologically) there were more chips in play.
for example $499 is (4x$100, 1x$50, 1x$25, 2x$10 and 4x$1)
where $500 is 1x$500.
It just looks more.

i do this on paired boards alot to represent the trips.... say the pot is $6, the board is 9-9-6... i would bet like $4.25 or $3.75. that always scares em

I like to bet random amounts for the tens and ones spaces.
For example if the pot is 400, i like to bet 343 instead of 350, or some other random numbers.
Its really funny how people think that my amounts are tells, because i pick the last digits randomly

The odds of you guys picking these numbers "randomly" and without a pattern are very, very slim. I hope you realize this.

the last numbers are pure impulsive picks
i might use the time on a song im listening to is up to.

Either way it's something that obviously means some of you guys are not fully concentrating on the game, 'cause you're trying to work out the bet.
At the very least, it takes longer to work out the percentage of the pot the other guy bets.
As long as it's a distraction from the other players game, it's a positive thing for you.

It's strange.
a few years ago it seemed to mean someone was acting strong and was strong. It did actually seem to work at the low nl stakes when I used it to get a call, but now I wouldn't know.
When someone does it to me I don't really rely too heavily on what it could mean, perhaps I should, but I rarely come into contact with it to be worried now.
I remember a few weeks ago I was in one of the sunday tournaments and the board read ATT he bet 6789 and then typed in the box "what comes after 9?" so I said T and pushed all in after he had comitted himself. I had AA anyway and he had A5. That little story has no real relation to what I was saying, but I haven't had a chance to share it and I felt all cool and smug.

lol.
Would have been funnier if he actually had a T

Yeah, that makes sense, because, oh wait, no it doesn't.
